EHN Prairies Inc. is a Complex Needs Emergency Shelter, which is specifically designed to support individuals with elevated and unique needs.

This facility provides essential services to people who require specialized emergency shelter support, where clients are accommodated based upon an assessment of their needs with the purpose of delivering services to clients within the community.


Duties and Responsibilities:


Enforcement & Investigation

  • May detain and/or make arrests or unarrests (including Mental Health apprehensions).
  • Enforces designated provincial statutes, municipal bylaws, SHA property/directives, and limited Criminal Code of Canada violations under Section 495 (l) (a)(b).
  • Provides supervision for detained individuals arrested by law enforcement awaiting medical assessment by physician when indicated by symptom level
  • Investigates issues/concerns/complaints in cooperation with local security staff and police.
  • Writes initial reports for followup.
  • Receives and exhibits found property and returns to rightful owners when identified.
  • Retrieves/captures photo/video evidence from all available sources.
  • Criminal intelligence sharing amongst local law enforcement agencies pertaining to healthcare for client, employee, public safety.
  • Provides restraints when necessary for clients, provides collaborative support for clients struggling with acute detox and mental health concerns.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Provide Security for Staff, Patients, Clients and Visitors

  • Guards and observes patients, helps to locate missing or wandering patients.
  • Guards lockup areas.
  • Responds to incidents that occur which may result in injury to persons.
  • Diffuses violent or aggressive situations.
  • Restrains noncompliant individuals.
  • Ensures patient census is accurate.
  • Provides assistance to the safe drive/safe walk programs.

Protect / Secure Facility and Property

  • Monitors security cameras.
  • Secures entrances and offices throughout the facility.
  • Execution of nonviolent provincial statutes and bylaws.
  • Patrols designated properties to deter theft, vandalism, illegal parking and damage.
  • Apprehends and detains suspects, removes and documents contraband.
  • Removes and catalogues dangerous weapons.
  • Ensures safety of designated properties.
  • Monitors suspicious activities.

Qualifications:


  • Must hold a valid security guard or private investigators licence while employed by a licensed security business in Saskatchewan.
  • Post secondary education with specialization in protective services/related areas
  • You must have one (1) year security experience. Previous security experience in a health care setting is preferred.
  • Must provide documentation of a clean Criminal Record and Valid Security License
  • Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public, staff and patients.
  • Excellent customer service skills and able to work with people who are under stress or in need of assistance.
  • Motivated team player with a positive serviceoriented approach
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated sensitivity toward clients experiencing mental health challenges.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies as they arise while remaining calm and in control of the situation.
  • Ability to work with mínimal supervision, problemsolve and exercise good judgment in varied situations.
  • Exercise initiative and good judgment with ability to multitask in a fast paced, challenging environment, often with competing priorities.
  • Able to lift up to 50lbs when required
  • Proficient in the use of various computer programs (i.e. MS Office) and able to adapt and learn new programs
