Job Summary:


The Department of Psychiatry is one of the larger departments in the Faculty of Medicine (FoM) with over 1000 department members including full time and clinical faculty, academic visitors, fellows, student employees and staff in varying job families and classifications, in addition to volunteers and others working in clinical and research environments.

The Department's medical education programs are some of the most widely distributed within the Faculty of Medicine with faculty appointees and trainees located within all six (6) Health Authorities.

Funding within the Department, supporting positions and activities, is a mix of operating funds, clinical alternative payment program funds, significant research grant and donation funding, endowments, education program funding as well as external partnership funding.

The fellow will be based at UBC Hospital on the main UBC campus.


Organizational Status:
Reports directly to Dr. Torres.

The PDF will liaise with faculty, students and staff within the Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine (FoM) units, UBC central units, external agencies and personnel in health authorities, and other stakeholders.


Work Performed:

  • Investigation of clinical neuropsychological functioning in individuals presenting with treatment resistant psychosis
  • Investigation of cognitive and metacognitive functioning in these and related clinical populations.
  • Fosters research collaborations and work jointly with academic, clinical, industry, and other partners
  • May collaborate and work in the areas of cognitive remediation, neurostimulation, and other related specialties within the department.
  • Contributes to ongoing studies and develop independent projects from existing databases.
  • Identify funding opportunities as well as write grant proposals with supervisor as a co

Qualifications:

  • Ph.
D in clinical neuropsychology and clinical psychology- Track record of publication in neuropsychology and mental illness- Strong statistical analysis skill- Fluent in written and spoken English and demonstrated excellence in writing- Previous experience in proposal/grant writing is an asset- Excellent written and oral communication skills- Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills


Supervision Received:
Reports to Dr. Torres. The PDF will work with a high degree of independence and set priorities under broad directives from Dr. Torres. Supervision may also be provided by other investigators and collaborators


Supervision Given:
PDF may provide supervision and training to other junior students or to research staff.


Consequence of Error:


The PDF is accountable for the quality and integrity of the research and data, including analyses and interpretation, as well as the effective and efficient management of research projects and deliverables.

Incorrect decisions or actions lead to loss of credibility and loss of funds.
