About Our Opportunity:


As the Program Administration Officer, you will be responsible for the administration and promotion of various government and African Nova Scotian Affairs sponsored programs and the administration of the African Nova Scotian Affairs (ANSA) grant program.

The Program Administration Officer will have knowledge, awareness and an understanding of the history and culture of the African Nova Scotia community.


The Program Administration Officer, builds and facilitates networks of community groups, and provides educational and community developmental tools, and monitors the community environment.

The Program Administration Officer provides adequate services resulting in opportunities for self-reliance and increase positive and social development of the community.


The Program Administration Officer represents the Office of African Nova Scotian Affairs, by working to develop and enhance strategic partnerships and alliances among community stakeholders, while encouraging communities to work together.

This position reports to the Director, Government and Community relations.


Primary Accountabilities:

In this position, you will be responsible for building relationships that will promote and support community and government initiatives. This will include providing support, direction, planning tools and advice to community groups.

As a trusted community partner, you will work directly with community groups to facilitate workshops; lead information sharing sessions and deliver presentations to build community capacity.


  • Promote opportunities for members of the community and community groups by providing information and advice regarding relevant government programs and services.
  • Responsible for the administration and promotion of the African Noa Scotian Affairs Grants and Contributions program.
  • Assisting with the department's strategic planning process, by designing, developing, modifying, and/or implementing programs, and by providing advice, analysis and interpretation.
  • Support and promote access to government programs and services by responding to requests for information, maintain current knowledge of the available resources, provide navigational support for grant writers, and conducting environmental scans of the communities to identify emerging local issues.
  • Monitor programs and community issues by researching, analyzing, investigating (independently and/or with community) to develop resolution of issues.

Qualifications and Experience:


To be successful in this role, you will have a Bachelors' Degree or other relevant post-secondary field of study, in addition, you possess 5 years of related experience.

An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.


You have direct experience working in Historical African Nova Scotian communities and an understanding of issues affecting the Nova Scotian African population.

In addition, you have experience administering programs, conducting research, strong report writing skills and engaging with various stakeholders to assist with the implementation of programs, projects, or services.


You possess exceptional communication skills (verbal and written), you have excellent interpersonal skills, strong partnering and relationship-building skills, excellent problem solving and conflict resolution skills that allow you to navigate.

You are proficient using Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.

You have experience with research capabilities, analytical skills (able to take complex or high volume of data and transfer into lay terms).

Familiarity with strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy while balancing priorities.

In addition, you will act with the greatest discretion and confidentiality, and communicate with sensitivity in all situations. You work well in team environments or independently adhering to deadlines while maintaining confidence, tact, diplomacy, and sound judgment. You adapt to changing environment
