Qualifications:


  • Postsecondary degree or diploma in health, social or behavioural sciences
  • Crisis Prevention/Intervention certificate; or willing to complete this training within the first 3 months of employment
  • B.S.T. diploma and Acquired Brain Injury certificate preferred
  • Registered Behavioural Technician (RBT) preferred
  • Experience with clients with challenging behaviours
  • Ability to implement behavioural assessment and treatment programs
  • Knowledge of behavioural techniques and crisis prevention and intervention
  • Conflict resolution and problemsolving ability
  • Demonstrated teaching skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work well within a team
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Ability to demonstrate a customer service philosophy
  • Availability to work a flexible work schedule (shift work required)
  • Experience working with Acquired Brain Injury clients preferred
  • Evidence of satisfactory attendance record
  • An employee's disciplinary record will be reviewed as part of the assessment of qualifications
  • Ability to work in a manner that exemplifies the centre's core values and helps patients_ get their life back_
  • Should be aware of conditions and measures that may affect the safety of patients, residents, students, employees, volunteers, physicians and visitors

Accountabilities:Within Inpatient ABI Program

  • Implement behavioural and rehabilitation interventions and plans to inpatient ABI clients. This includes teaching ADLs as well as implementing OT, PT and SLP strategies outlined per patient and providing routine care including escorting clients to medical or other health appointment; social outings including the teaching of social skills and managing behaviour on site with the client.

Within ABI Adult Day program:

  • Provide Day client support
  • Lead education sessions with outside agencies and clients
  • Collaborate with other community ABI service providers
  • Encourage and support client transition to other community programs
  • Escort clients on social outings including the teaching of social skills and managing behavior on site with the client

Unit Accountabilities:

  • Implement behavioural and rehabilitation interventions and plans to inpatient ABI clients.
  • Report significant clinical findings to the RN on duty.
  • Implement ongoing assessments and collect data.
  • Provide client support including escorting clients to medical or other health appointment; social outings.
  • Teach clients supporting social skills as well as other education as required.
  • Complete documentation in a timely and accurate manner.

Service Planning and Delivery:

  • Provide educational opportunities, and ongoing support to role of Developmental Rehab Therapist.
  • Participate in team and/or hospital wide committees as requested.
  • Provide program statistics.

Other:

  • Implement programs that incorporate CPI Techniques
  • Participate in research and quality improvement activities
  • Present, promote and represent the ABI Service at conferences and other promotion events as required
