The Opportunity:


Red River Co-op is recruiting for the position of Environmental Supervisor at our Home Office located at 10 Prairie Way, in Winnipeg.

This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).


The Environmental Supervisor adds value to our Co-operative by providing expert knowledge and overall guidance on environmental regulations and legislation.

The individual designs, develops, monitors and executes programs to ensure compliance with environmental standards.

Essential responsibilities of the position include the following:

  • Be a liaison and public relations representative for the Co-op within the communities we serve;
  • Providing expert knowledge and guidance on all Federal and Provincial Environmental standards and legislation;
  • Responsible for maintaining and updating all Environmental processes and policies, including training new staff on the requirements;
  • Conduct research on best practices and design, develop and implement programs, policies and practices to support the overall Environmental program;
  • Responsible for managing environmental site assessments, remediation assessments, compliance evaluation studies, preparation of investigation work plans, performing/directing field activities, conducting data analysis and interpretation, preparation of reports, and contaminant management and removal;
  • Maintain all essential equipment including coordinating and overseeing the calibration program of fuel dispenser meters;
  • Ensure the Coop is prepared for any regulatory audits, including managing the audit process and responding to all enquires on a timely basis;
  • Maintain the ongoing due diligence program for fuel controls, including performing the training for new employees;
  • Maintain environmental permits with Manitoba Environment, Climate and Parks and the Technical Standards and Safety Authority in Ontario;
  • Complete semiannual physical environmental inspections, prepare reports and assist the operations team with the implementation of recommendations;
  • Coordinate annual inspections by Licensed Petroleum Technicians; and
  • Complete quarterly environmental report for the board of directors.

About You:

To be successful in this role, you will bring the following skills and competencies:

  • You have a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a related field;
  • A B. Sc degree in science, engineering or any related scientific field would be considered an asset;
  • You demonstrate effective team leadership skills and the ability to work well with diverse groups;
  • You have strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • You are selfdriven, goaloriented and have the ability to set and adjust priorities and schedules;
  • You are proficient with Microsoft products, such as Excel, Word and Powerpoint; and
  • You are trustworthy, and maintain a high degree of integrity and confidentiality.
