Job Summary
- Dalhousie University's Psychology and Neuroscience Department is the top Psychology and Neuroscience Department in Atlantic Canada. The department is oneofakind and was established for research into what makes humans and animals behave the way that they do, as well as to understand the structure and function of the nervous system. Reporting to the Department Administrator, the Communications Coordinator is responsible for creating compelling content to maximize the department's website, social media, and other digital platforms to effectively communicate the department's mission and key messages. They also support the faculty members in facilitating student accommodations.
Key Responsibilities
- Research, write, and produce relevant web and digital content that incorporates best practices in web writing, search optimization and digital asset integration.
- Create and align various promotional assets such as video, digital signage, newsletters, ads, and posters; ensure consistent and effective messaging.
- Plan messaging and coordinate social media posts for the department's social media channels; listen, respond and create conversations on these channels.
- Continuously evaluate the department's communications and strategy with respect to department's strategic goals. This includes conducting surveys, user research, web analytics, and focus groups. Assess effectiveness and usability of the department's website and recommend changes, as necessary.
- Provide consultation and advice to faculty members, research coordinators, and graduate students on effective use of digital and social media to promote and support research.
- Support course instructors to implement courserelated formal student accommodations, facilitating communication between course instructors and the Student Accessibility Centre.
Note
The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Dalhousie's vaccine mandate has been suspended at this time, and employees no longer need to provide proof of full vaccination.

Required Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in communications, marketing, writing, media studies, visual design, plus three years' related experience (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
- Strong writing and storytelling skills, excellent grammar, and excellent copyediting skills.
- Welldeveloped planning and organizational skills, and ability to multitask and prioritize.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently.
- Must have an understanding of, and support, accessibility issues.
- Incumbent must have the ability to establish effective working relations and provide excellent customer service.
Assets
- Experience working in a postsecondary institution is an asset.
- Experience with web design platforms, content management systems, design, new media, information technology, communications or library/information science.
