Position Overview


The
Department of Student Success in the
Haskayne School of Business is currently seeking a Full-time Temporary Relief
Advisor, Graduate Student Experience for approximately 12 months.


This position reports to Manager, Career & Life Design in the Haskayne School of Business, and is a member of the Haskayne Student Services team.

Student Services is responsible for career development, graduate student services, student experience, and co-curricular experiential learning at HSB.

Through initiatives inside and outside the classrooms, Student Services elevates student experience, transforms learning, and equips students with competencies and skills for career and lifelong development.

This position plays a critical role in creating, delivering, and measuring a well-rounded student experience.

This position works closely with others in the Student Services team, as well as units across the School and the University.


Stressors include dealing with the demands of multiple projects initiation and implementation, sensitivity of multiple simultaneous deadlines as well as ensuring that communication with multiple stakeholders is always professional and productive regardless of external and internal pressures.

This position requires discretionary decision-making as well to deal with interruptions. Impact of errors is high and may affect university reputation.


Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

Student Experience & Advising:

  • Create, plan, and execute students experience programs, such as new student orientations, skill and professional development programs, case competitions, and cocurricular and excurricular experiential learning programs. Mobilize and engage the student body to be part of the program delivery
  • Research the field of nonacademic student experience and recommend programs to the Manager
  • Research and evaluate domestic and international case competition opportunities for students that the School could attend or host
  • Participate in committee or work groups and provide recommendations to support student experience initiatives
  • Collaborate with the rest of Student Services and the Recruitment & Admissions team to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and a seamless student experience
  • Design, administer, and analyze student experience surveys. Establish survey structure, format and process according to best practices to ensure reliability and completeness of results and complies with rules and guidelines set by external agencies
  • Collaborate with Haskayne ́s marketing team and provide support to organize focus groups and other research to report on student satisfaction, effectiveness of experiential programs and identifying gaps
  • Maintain knowledge of regulations and best practices in experiential learning and disseminate throughout the team
  • Document, maintain and monitor program policies and procedures relating to experiential programs
  • Support and act as a backup person to the Graduate Student Services Specialists, advise students on programs and services

Committee Administration:

  • Schedule, assemble agenda, and record keeping of committee meetings
  • Tracking of expenditures, assisting in expense claims, advising students and committee members on relevant committee business processes and procedures
  • Maintain and update SEF and case competitions Desire2Learn page
  • Produce stakeholder and financial reports

Student Communications and Other Duties:

  • Primary contact and coordinator for student communication and information dissemination
  • Create and maintain online student experience information, including website, D2L, and Orbis Outcome
  • Implement and maintain a graduate student experience communication strategy

Qualifications / Requirements:


  • A postsecondary degree, preferably in management or business, is required
  • Knowledge of executive and / or professional development programming is required
  • Proven ability to effectively navigate a large organization and manage relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including students, faculty, internal and external partners is required
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills including the ability to work independently, meet deadlines, coordinate multiple projects with changing/conflicting priorities, are required
  • Effective decision making and problem solving ability required
  • Professionalism and a strong work ethic, as well as the ability to operate effectively within a dynamic, customerfacing, team environment is required
  • The ability to handle ambiguity and resolve emerging issues with initiative and a collaborative mindset is essential
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Strong attention to detail is required
  • A solid working knowledge of the suite of Microsoft Office products and PeopleSoft is required
  • Experience in data collection and analysis and fina
