The Edmonton Police Service is seeking a highly motivated, energetic, and passionate Security Systems Administrator to manage the day-to-day administration and operations of security systems, hardware and software and execute on security project plans


Roles and responsibilities include:

  • Perform installation, administration, configuration, and maintenance of security technologies including but not limited to: Access controls, visitor management, CCTV, video management systems, fence detection and interview room solutions.
  • Planning, consultation, and technical development to ensure that security software and systems operate seamlessly on existing and future IT infrastructure.
  • Research and evaluate security products and processes and be involved in the installation of software and hardware.
  • Fault identification and resolution for security software and systems.
  • Planning and developing automated processes.
  • Monitor security software and systems for alerts and respond accordingly.
  • Produce and analyze reports on user activity, incidents, alerts, remediation, and activity on a regular and asrequired basis
  • Install and/or oversee installation of network and server hardware and software as it pertains to security technology
  • Create and maintain system documentation in accordance with information technology standards.
  • Through robust best practice provide information for investigations, audits etc. to support operations. or active investigations
  • Implement procedures to back up configuration of security systems, troubleshoot and coordinate with vendor or maintenance group.
  • Work on implementing new technologies that might be required for security project execution.
  • Effective communication to project stakeholders.
  • Execution of (often complex) formal project plans with deliverables and milestones for security related projects.
  • Coordination of human resources, activities and tasks related to the project plans, including often complex integration, upgrade path, consolidation, expansion, and resilience.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Ability to be on call rotation after working hours and during the weekend.
  • Ability to independently travel between various EPS sites around the city.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications:


  • Graduation from a recognized institute of technology, university degree or equivalent certification in computing sciences, or a related technology field.
  • Minimum 2 years progressive experience with operating, administrating, developing and/or implementing security software, monitoring stations and systems within a complex distributed computing environment.
  • Vendor Certification in the following Domains is preferred:


  • CCTV/VMS Systems

  • Genetec 5.10 or above


  • Access Control Systems

  • HID and Mercury
  • Duress Systems
  • Intrusion Systems
  • Interview Room Software
  • Visitor Management Systems
  • Thorough knowledge of IT infrastructure, TCP/IP, networking and information system security principles, practices, and technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead contractors. Provide clear direction, manage performance, and ensure assigned work meets EPS identified standards.
  • Ability to set clearly defined objectives, plan activities in a timely way and monitor performance against deadlines and milestones.
  • HPE DL server hardware and VMware experience would be considered an asset.
  • Able to perform the physical requirements of the job, including lifting to 35 kilograms.
  • Class 5 Drivers License is required.

  • As part of your prehire screening you will be required to complete an Enhanced Security Clearance. Should you accept employment with the Edmonton Police Service you acknowledge and agree to participate in future Enhanced Security Re-Clearances at scheduled intervals or in any other circumstances, exigent or otherwise, as required by Human Resources Division.

Salary Grade: 044, $ $54.67 (Hourly), $2, $3, Bi-Weekly), $76, $96, Annually). The rates quoted are in accordance with the collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
