About the Job:


We are seeking an experienced Head Grower to oversee all aspects of growing at our Glen Williams site in Georgetown, Ontario.

As the Head Grower, you will be responsible for leading the growing team and all technical growing aspects for the management of plants in our nursery.

Your expertise will contribute to the success of our nursery by ensuring the production of high-quality plants while maximizing quality and productivity.

This role requires strong leadership, communication and deep horticultural knowledge.

Your Accountabilities:


  • Technical growing lead on all aspects of growing media, plant fertility, irrigation, Integrated Pest Management (IPM).
  • Lead our team of growers, developing their skills and knowledge by inspiring them as a mentor, setting goals, and ensuring accountability.
  • Quality Control: Implement best practices to ensure consisted production of quality plants that meet readiness targets. Leading the plant health staff to monitor and address plant diseases, pests, and nutrient deficiencies promptly.
  • Interact with regulatory agencies, such as the CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) to ensure compliance with all necessary regulations and certifications. Lead the Clean Plants Program.
  • Research and Development: Keep up to date with the latest horticultural practices, technologies, and industry trends to improve growing techniques and enhance overall nursery productivity.
  • Lead new product introduction and trialing processing, collaborating crossfunctionally with the Sales, Marketing, and Category teams to bring new products to market.
  • Health and Safety: Promote and enforce safety regulations and best practices to ensure a safe working environment for all nursery staff, leading by example. Identify and mitigate potential hazards related to equipment, chemicals, or work processes.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Foster effective communication and collaboration within the nursery and with other departments, such as Distribution, Sales, and Retail Operations.
  • Assist with other duties and projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Horticulture, Plant Science, or a related field
  • Proven experience as a Grower in a nursery or greenhouse environment
  • Indepth knowledge of growing techniques, including growing media, plant fertility, irrigation, crop cycles, and Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to drive result, motivate and develop employees, and ensure accountability while aiming to exceed expectations
  • Excellent problemsolving and decisionmaking abilities, numeracy, and analytical skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines while balancing multiple demands
  • Proficiency in record keeping and inventory management software, as well as MS Office Suite
  • Excellence communication and interpersonal skills
  • Previous supervisory experience in an agricultural/horticultural environment
  • Continuous improvement mindset seeks ways to optimize processes, eliminate waste and streamline growing practices
  • Valid class G Ontario driver's license
  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts including some evening, weekends, and holidays as seasonal peaks require
  • This job requires extended periods of walking and standing, as well as the ability to lift 50lbs and work outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
