Research Associate:


Main Functions:

Specific tasks associated with this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Design, conduct and coordinate various R&D activities
  • Plan and conduct/supervise fermentation and other project activities in the process lab
  • Train and supervise trainees and ensure the accuracy of the experiments
  • Analyze and report fermentation/experiment results in written format weekly
  • Write monthly R&D reports and other reports regularly
  • Conduct a variety of lab QC analyses and technical procedures when required
  • Develop technical protocols and prepare standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Ensure the supplies of chemicals and other materials for the projects in the lab
  • Ensure that the fermenters and related equipment are in good working order
  • Ensure clean and safe environment in the lab
  • Participate in the trouble shootings in the plant and the transfer of R&D results to the plant

Technical skills:

Required

  • At least BSc degree in Fermentation Technology, Biochemical Engineering, Microbiology, Biotechnology or relevant discipline with 15 related experience
  • Working knowledge of fermenter operations and fermentation processes
  • Relevant computer competence (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Minitab, Programming, etc)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate results, concepts and ideas
An asset

  • Experience in yeast fermentation and processing
  • Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
  • Bilingual (English & French)
