    Duties: Reporting to the President and CEO, the Executive Director, Indigenization and Hazelton Campus is responsible for leading CMTN's Indigenous community engagement planning, furthering the Indigenization Strategic Plan, and attending events and serving on working groups regarding Indigenization. In addition, as the lead of the Hazelton Campus, the Executive Director engages with the local communities and other partners, such as the School District and employers. This role is focused on moving Indigenization forward for the college as a whole, by developing, leading, and tracking internal initiatives and by engaging in robust external relations.

    Key accountabilities will include:

  • Community relations, including attending community events, representing the College with external groups, and working with relevant provincial and national working groups regarding Indigenization, e.g. ILead, FNESC
  • Leadership, including leading the Indigenization Department in vision, strategy, goal-setting, and the departmental action plan (DAP); drafting the Indigenization Strategic Plan and reports to demonstrate gains made and next steps required
  • Support for CMTN as an employer, to infuse Indigenization through all aspects of the institution
  • Financial responsibility, including pragmatic use of the Hazelton Campus budget and proposal for ASP funding for First Nations Council
  • Facilities responsibility, including Hazelton Campus and support for potential local college capital projects in the Hazelton area
  • Committee engagement, including stewardship of First Nations Council, serving as a member of President's Council and as a member of the leadership team at CMTN
  • Qualifications

    Required knowledge, skills, and abilities include:

  • In-depth understanding of history, cultural values, traditions, and protocols of Northwest Coast Indigenous peoples
  • Completed bachelor's degree from a recognized institution; master's degree preferred
  • Demonstrated experience of three or more years of leadership in a community or organization, including the leadership of staff
  • Skilled at creating a vision, developing the strategies and actions required to see it through, and the ability to provide evidence in a written format, such as a strategic plan for an organization
  • Experienced at understanding complex issues and recommending solutions that are sustainable
  • Demonstrated track record of writing documents, like reports and plans
  • Ability to function effectively across cultures, particularly within Indigenous communities and across campus units
  • Experience working in a unionized environment is preferred
  • A people-based leadership style that brings people together
  • A demonstrated ability to work independently or collaboratively in a team or project setting
  • Has a valid driver's license and is able to travel through the region as required
  • Able to relocate to Hazelton by August 15th, if not already located in Hazelton; this position is on-site and requires the ability to attend the campus after hours in the case of an emergency. A relocation package is available for the successful candidate, if required
