  • About this OpportunityThe Mathematics and Statistics Department is within the Faculty of Science and is comprised of approximately 35 faculty and staff. The Department provides instruction to approximately 12,000 students annually at the undergraduate and graduate level. The department has a strong research program in the areas of Applied Mathematics, Discrete Mathematics, Pure Mathematics and Statistics.


Under the supervision of the Assistant to the Chair, this position is the first point of contact for the Department of Mathematics and Statistics and provides frontline support for the department.

This position is responsible for answering and directing inquiries, providing general office support to instructors and staff, and detailed administrative support to the undergraduate program, undergraduate adviser, and distributing information via the web and social media.

  • Job Requirements
    Experience:

1 year recent experience in a similar position, preferably in an office or institutional environment or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.


Preference will be given to applicants with:

  • Experience with UVic information systems
  • Experience working with record information systems
  • Experience working in an academic environment

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong computer skills, including file management;
  • Ability to adapt to changing technologies and procedures;
  • Ability to deal effectively with faculty, staff, students and the general public, practicing discretion and good judgement while maintaining confidentiality;
  • Excellent organizational skills including attention to detail, time management, and ability to multitask in a fastpaced environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to relate well and work effectively within a team environment

Specialized Knowledge/Education:
Secondary school graduation or equivalent.
