Description:


The ELS, Reading Recovery, P/1 Classroom Teacher is responsible for teaching and providing support to students within the South Shore Regional Centre for Education.

The Teacher will work within the Inclusive Education Policy framework by participating in individualized program planning with school staff and families to maximize learning experiences for students.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Valid Nova Scotia Teacher Certification


  • Bachelor of Education

  • Elementary
  • Reading Recovery training/certification
  • University education in English Language Arts
-
OR a minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching a minimum of 50% English Language Arts within the last five (5) years with positive performance appraisals and/or references

  • Experience teaching Early Literacy
  • Experience teaching Reading Recovery
  • University level courses in mathematics or mathematics education
  • University level courses in student assessment
  • Universtiy level courses in special or inclusive education
  • Professional development in mathematics or mathematics education
  • Professional development in student assessment
  • Professional development in special or inclusive education
  • Experience teaching lower elementary multiage classes
  • University level courses in literacy education
  • University level courses in mathematics or mathematics education
  • Professional development in literacy education
  • Professional development in mathematics or mathematics education
  • Experience teaching grades P
  • Excellent communication (written and oral and electronic), problem solving and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to collaborate with school and interagency teams to support early intervention strategies, coordination of services, problem solving and program planning;
  • Proven ability to work as a contributing member of school program planning and multidisciplinary teams;
  • Current knowledge of developmental trauma, the impact on learning, communication and social engagement throughout the lifespan;
  • An interest and willingness to engage in continuing education and professional development;
  • Ability to employ nonviolent crisis intervention techniques;
  • Ability to demonstrate teaching strategies and coach school staff as needed;
  • Ability to maintain and promote confidentiality as the norm;
  • Experience in planning and developing training and professional learning opportunities related to students with behaviours of concern;
  • Proven ability to communicate and work alongside diverse cultural and racial backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to value the voice and contribution of others while remaining open to corrective criticism.
