Are you a leader who possesses highway construction, maintenance, and contract management expertise? Do you want to be involved in making Ontario's roads safer? If so, the Ministry of Transportation's Operations Division would be a great fit for you.


The Ministry of Transportation, East Operations is seeking an individual with strong engineering, and leadership skills to manage and administer maintenance contracts for the region's multi-year maintenance program.

As the Head, Maintenance East, you will oversee the delivery of effective highway maintenance across Eastern Ontario, utilizing your diverse and broad experience in management, civil engineering, and contract management.

You will work closely with in-house staff and external service providers to ensure the successful delivery of the maintenance program.


Note:
We are looking for a manager to work in our Kingston or Ottawa office.

However, we also welcome applicants from anywhere in Ontario and are willing to consider the option to work from any of the MTO's offices.


About Us:


The Operations Division provides leadership related to ministry transportation activities by developing operational policies, providing end-user focused services for the transportation network, and maintaining and operating assets, infrastructure, and services.

Our division manages regional corridors, emergency management, maintenance, and operations.

We also play a pivotal role in building and managing transportation related stakeholder relationships and partnerships in the province and advocate for regional needs.

What can I expect to do in this role?


Reporting to the Manager of Highway Operations, you will:

  • Lead the delivery of effective highway maintenance across eastern Ontario, through staff oversight of large-scale maintenance contractors.
  • Provide expertise on contract matters and ensure consistent management of contracts.
  • Provide advice and support on a range of managerial, technical, and contractual matters related to maintenance contracts.
  • Handle complex issues related to contract administration, interpretation, performance and disputes.
  • Undertake special assignments or studies involving such issues as service delivery methods and related staffing and organization.
  • Review contract standards.
  • Implement new technologies related to maintenance.
How do I qualify?
Mandatory

  • You must be licensed by the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO).
Leadership and Management Skills

  • You have proven leadership and managerial skills to effectively supervise and develop professional, technical and support staff and resolve personnel problems and staff relations issues.
  • You have demonstrated ability to identify and provide direction in the resolution of complex and contentious issues.
