casual position to work at our home, 220-bed Long-Term Care, 60-bed Supportive Living Home in Red Deer, Alberta


Under the direction of the Director of Care and registered staff, the Health Care Aide provides direct personal and nursing care to the resident so as to fulfill the physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual needs of residents and in accordance with facility policies, procedures and work routines.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Provide personal assistance and support services for residents
  • Provide essential and important daily living support and comfort to patients, clients and residents; including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting and other personal hygiene activities. They may help patients/residents with feeding, mobility and exercise as needed.
  • Health care aides must be able to speak, read, write, and comprehend the English language well enough to follow directions and communicate effectively with patients/residents and their team members. They report on their observations and communicate concerns to nurses and other licensed health care professionals.
  • At times, health care aides provide work guidance to other health care aides and students. They also interact with patient family members and caregivers.
  • Work collaboratively with nursing professionals and other members of the overall health care team.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Health Care Aide certification required
  • LPN student who has successfully completed the first year of the diploma program and is enrolled to continue into the second year, may be considered
  • BScN student who has successfully completed years 2, 3 and is enrolled to continue into the next year of the degree program, may be considered
  • Experience working in a long term care setting an asset
  • Ability to work in a team setting
  • Strong organization, planning, time management and multitasking skills
  • Ability to be creative and flexible
  • Ability to take initiative and work both independently and collaboratively
