Description
All applicants must be available to start work on short notice and intend on returning to school at the end of season.
The Custodial Office Cleaner -Student works under the general supervision of a Foreman or the Supervisor of Building Services.The incumbent is responsible for cleaning of civic buildings, furnishing and fixtures; maintenance ground maintenance work; any building operations duties, such as locking and unlocking doors; and passive security duties to keep civic buildings in a clean, sanitary and safe condition.
As the _Custodial Office Cleaner - Student,_
you will:
- Empty wastepaper and recycling baskets, disposal units and remove all waste to a designed area.
- Dry and mop various floor surfaces; vacuum carpets, walkoff mats, chairs and furnishings.
- Dust all furniture, fixtures, telephones, venetian blinds, etc.
- Wipe walls, doors, frames, furniture, desks, filing cabinets, venetian blinds and fixtures.
- Clean glass and mirrors.
- Operate hand or power cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, floor scrubbers and polishers.
- Clean and disinfect washroom fixtures, hand basins, counters, toilets, urinals, walls, exposed plumbing pipes, dispensers, metal partitions, drinking fountains, doors and frames.
- Empty and disinfect all waste receptacles and disposal units.
- Replenish washroom supplies.
- Report inoperative and broken fixtures and equipment such as burnt out lamps, malfunctioning flush units on toilets and urinals, and inoperative cleaning equipment.
- Remove debris around buildings and shovel snow; keeping walks, entrances and emergency exit doors clear, safe and operational yearround.
- Assist with moving of furniture.
- Perform other duties consistent with the classification as assigned.
Your qualifications include:
- Experience in an Office Cleaner/Custodial position in facilities such as office buildings, hospitals, schools or similar work environment is an asset.
- Ability to use commercial cleaning products and equipment is an asset.
- Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with staff and general public in a professional and respectful manner.
- Organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks within tight timelines.
- Verbal communication skills with ability to understand and execute instructions.
- Written communication skills with the ability to complete documents such as logs and reports clearly and concisely.
Conditions of employment:
- Must possess a St. John's Ambulance Emergency First Aid Certificate or equivalent or willingness and ability to obtain it within three (3) months.
- Must be able to work various hours during day and evening shifts.
- Must be willing and able to move locations per Management direction based on operational needs.
- Must be physically capable of performing all of the duties of the position, in all weather conditions.
