Your Opportunity

  • Under the general supervision of the Manager, Safety, Security & Emergency Management (the "Manager"), the Security & Emergency Coordinator (the "Coordinator") is responsible for recommending strategies, procedures, and programs pertaining to security and emergency preparedness of students, employees, and visitors at all campuses and college facilities by fostering a culture of safety and security; developing, coordinating, scheduling, documenting and delivering initiatives and programs that promote and enhance security; and providing tools to employees and students that help them maintain a safe and secure environment.
    Functions and Duties
  • 1. Fosters a culture of safety and security; identifies gaps in safety and emergency program implementation; identifies and develops training resources and programs to improve security awareness and emergency preparedness. 2. Assists in planning, developing, implementing and administering security and emergency management programs. 3. Identifies and reports situations to the Manager which may require investigation and escalation to senior management. 4. Conducts or assists in conducting assessments and audits and may investigate reported incidents. Prepares reports related to such incidents for the Manager's review and finalization. 5. Assists the Manager in planning, developing, implementing and administering security and emergency response plans, programs and activities. 6. Takes a lead role in ensuring the College's contracted security service provider is meeting operational requirements by reviewing shift and incidents reports, updating post orders, tracking security incidents on all campuses and preparing reports for the Manager. 7. Conducts or assists in conducting risk assessments, physical security audits and Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) reviews. 8. Assists in organizing and implementing emergency response scenarios and drills; participates in developing emergency response procedures such as individualized and campusbased evacuation plans, reviews and recommends designated refuge and assembly areas, assists with emergency warden training, and assists the OHS team in ensuring signage requirements meet Fire Code regulations. 9. Ensures Okanagan College meets regulatory compliance and follows Okanagan College policies and procedures and makes certain that all stakeholders are active participants in the implementation and maintenance of security and emergency management programs. 10. Monitors compliance with applicable laws, standards and guidelines, as well as operating within the College policies and procedures, and acts as an advisor and resource to the college community for issues of a security or emergency response concern. 11. Keeps current in security and emergency management initiatives and activities, developing a network of resources and contacts and advises the Manager of initiatives and regulations regarding security and emergency management programs. 12. Assists the Manager in evaluating current operational standards, policies and procedures against regulatory requirements and industry best practices. Develops and maintains effective communication between faculties, divisions and departments in matters related to security and emergency management.
    Education and Experience
  • Twoyear diploma in security or emergency management is required 4 years directly related experience in security management is required. A current Occupational First Aid Level 2 certification and a valid class 5 BC driver's license is required

Annual Salary/Hourly Rate

  • Range $66,984 to $98,243. Typical Hiring Range $80,381 to $89,312.
