***: Reporting to the Director of Fleet, the Manager, Trucking will be responsible for mentoring, leading, and setting direction for the Sigfusson Northern Heavy Haul department, the Truck & Trailer Transport Shop, Gravel Haul Fleet, 3Di Truck & Trailers and the Lundar Wash Pad. The Manager, Trucking will collaborate and communicate with various departments to ensure effective and efficient operations with the trucking department and support services. This position will be located in Lundar, MB.


CORE RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:


  • Schedule, plan, execute, and communicate all activities and functions associated with the trucking division and support services.
  • Collaborate and communicate with various departments to ensure effective and efficient operations with the trucking department and support services.
  • Lead the planning and implementation of winter roads and collaborate with all departments required to ensure effective and efficient operations.
  • Strategize and research opportunities to continuously grow the revenues from 3rd party customers.
  • Collaborate with the People & Culture department for recruitment and development of departmental staff.
  • Monitor all revenue and costs for the overall trucking fleet and report findings to the Director, Fleet regularly.
  • Responsible for the preparation, recommendation, and adherence to the departmental budget.
  • Recommend longterm capital expenditures for the upkeep and expansion of the Lundar service facility.
  • Responsible for recommending and assisting in heavy truck & trailer purchases and assist with the sales process.
  • Provide recommendations to the Director, Fleet for purchases of all shop parts and specialized tools.
  • Assist in determining the lowest life cycle cost for all heavy truck and trailer assets.
  • Ensure maximization of the utilization of all heavy truck and trailer assets.
  • Source and negotiate subcontracts with brokers as required to meet customer and Sigfusson Northern's operational schedule demands.
  • Inspect trucks and trailers and determine readiness for deployment to internal customers.
  • Responsible for ensuring all heavy truck and trailer units have valid safeties, are insured correctly, and compliant.
  • Responsible for tracking and reporting on the location of all heavy truck and trailer units.
  • Responsible for meeting and exceeding all trucking regulatory compliance requirements and keeping a pristine Manitoba carrier profile rating.
  • Prepare reports and estimates for major repairs and equipment upgrades and present them to the Director, Fleet.
  • Ensure high quality service is provided to all external and internal customers.
  • Conduct weekly L10 Meetings with direct reports.
  • Develop and recommend department policies and procedures to the Director, Fleet.
  • Promote the company vision, values, operating principles, and goals on a daily basis.
  • Ad hoc duties as required.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:


  • Minimum 5+ years working in the trucking industry.
  • Experience working in the construction industry will be considered an asset.
  • Ability to build relationships and provide strong customer service.
  • Experience working in a leadership role and managing a team.
  • Proficient in operating and general reports in E360 and TransPlus.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively with various departments and make communication a top priority.
  • Experience conducting shortterm and longterm planning initiatives and presenting to management.
  • Ability to build trust with a team and upper management.
  • Must possess strong negotiation skills.
  • Critical thinking and effective decisionmaking skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written as well as electronically.
  • Strong accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to provide a clear security clearance check.
  • Ability to travel on a regular basis is required.
