The
Agriculture Production and Resilience Division is responsible for program development and extension for all aspects of farm management and agricultural production systems, including crops, livestock and soils.


The
Land Use and Ecosystems Resilience Branch is responsible for developing and delivering programming and extension on sustainable agricultural production, and for enhancing the resilience of Manitoba's agricultural sector through the management and administration of Agricultural Crown Lands, soil survey and ag weather network initiatives.


We are currently recruiting the two roles noted below, which will be of interest to self-motivated individuals with a passion for public service.


Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must be a member of, or eligible for membership in, the Manitoba Institute of Agrologists at the Professional Agrologist level
  • Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather and with limited communication service
  • Valid Manitoba Class 5 drivers license or equivalent
  • Ability to travel throughout Manitoba
  • Ability to use vehicles and allterrain vehicles, including quads in rough terrain and isolated areas _Farm Production Extension Specialist (Agricultural Crown Lands) position only_

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Bachelor of Science in agriculture with an emphasis in environmental studies, plant science, soil science or animal science. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered
  • Experience in agronomy, crop production, forage production, rangeland production or livestock production and environmentally sustainable cropping and livestock practices
  • Knowledge of soils, climate, crops or livestock specific to Manitoba
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, including the ability to deliver effective presentations
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to write clear, concise documents, reports, guides, and factsheets to convey complex technical information to a variety of internal and external audiences
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively and maintain strong working relationships with rural clients, industry groups and internal contacts
  • Strong problem solving skills with the ability to analyze situations, develop options and make sound recommendations, including livestock, forage or cropland management _(Farm Production Extension Specialist (Agricultural Crown Lands) position only)_, or for the adoption of beneficial management practices _(Farm Production Extension Specialist (Agri-Resources) position only)_
  • Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to work under pressure and manage multiple deadlines with limited lead times
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, ARCview or similar GIS program
  • Sound knowledge of issues, regulations and beneficial management practices related to crop and livestock production in Manitoba _Farm Production Extension Specialist (Agri-Resources) position only_
  • Sound knowledge of issues and regulations related to livestock production and the Agricultural Crown Lands program in Manitoba _Farm Production Extension Specialist (Agricultural Crown Lands) position only_

Desired:
