Job Summary:


Reporting to the Manager of Traffic Operations, the Supervisor of Traffic Signals is responsible for managing the daily activities of the Electricians and Technicians to maintain the effective and efficient operation of all signal and illumination equipment and systems within the Traffic Signals Section, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations and Council approved levels of service.


Education:


  • Completion of inschool training required for an Electrician
  • Construction and Maintenance (309A) apprenticeship (Certificate of Qualification).
  • Postsecondary diploma in an Electronic Engineering Technology program or related discipline.
  • Additional education and training in the operation, installation and maintenance of the Traffic Signal control devices is preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education, experience and qualifications may be considered.

Knowledge:


  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience, including on the job experience required for Electrician
  • Construction and Maintenance (309A) apprenticeship (Certificate of Qualification) and 5 years of experience in a Traffic Signal Operations environment, performing installation and maintenance of traffic control devices.
  • 3 years of experience in a supervisory capacity.
  • Must possess and maintain a Certificate of Qualification as an Electrician
  • Construction and Maintenance (309A).
  • Must obtain and maintain Level II, International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Signals certificate.
  • Must obtain and maintain Level II, IMSA Roadway Lighting certificate.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid Infrastructure Health & Safety Association (IHSA) certificate for Electrical Utility Safety Rules, Electrical Safety
  • High Voltage, Hydraulic Aerial Equipment and Rescue Techniques.
  • Must possess sound knowledge of electronics.
  • Must possess sound knowledge of hydraulic systems.
  • Detailed working knowledge and understanding of the Highway Traffic Act, Employment Standards Act, Occupation Health and Safety Act, the Ontario Traffic Manuals, Minimum Maintenance Standards and AODA.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in procurement and invoice reconciliations is preferred.
  • Must possess detailed knowledge of Provincial & Federal Codes related to trades.
  • Knowledge of the Niagara Region Standards and Specifications for contractors is an asset.
  • Intermediate knowledge, experience and skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access and Outlook) and electronic mapping (e.g. ArcPro, Google Maps, Google Street View and Google Earth and Adobe Acrobat Pro) is required.
  • Working knowledge of and competency in Traffic's Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) (e.g. Cityworks) is preferred.
  • Strong analytical thinking, decisionmaking, planning, prioritization and execution skills, culminating in results oriented problem solving.
