Job Summary

What is the opportunity?
This position will provide support to the Canadian and Caribbean banking litigation team on Quebec matters.

Responsibilities include managing through to completion banking-related litigation inquiries received at RBC Law Group from front-line staff and back-end offices.

The person will be responsible for reviewing and processing complex third party demands and court materials; providing guidance and support for various legal documents (including releases); drafting responses to and communicating with opposing counsel or other parties; and assisting on small claims and regular litigation tasks as required.

At least 3 years of law clerk or equivalent experience is required.

This position will report to the Director, Canadian and Caribbean Banking Litigation and will be located in either Montreal or Toronto.


What will you do?

  • Assisting Canadian Banking Litigation team with escalations and resolving routine legal issues by providing administrative support and support on court files such as collecting relevant information and documents. Providing interpretations on various court orders, Requests to Pay, garnishments and other legal documents.
  • Conducting legal tasks, such as research and drafting, under the supervision of lawyers on the team. Drafting responses to internal business partners on legal issues and risk.
  • Managing small claims litigation portfolio; managing external counsel and legal spend
  • Maintaining repositories of legal documentation and databases

What you need to succeed?

Must have

  • 3+ years' experience in private practice or with an inhouse legal team handling litigation matters
  • Law Clerk Diploma
  • Excellent problemsolving and client service skills
  • Ability to ensure accuracy, attention to detail and meet deadlines
  • Bilingualism (English and French) required, as you will regularly do business with partners across Canada

Nice to have

  • Inhouse experience in the financial services industry
  • Familiarity with debt collection practices and court procedures
