Assist members of the Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) team in functions related to areas of safety, health and environment.
A Day in the Life
The opportunity to work with a team of Safety, Health and Environment professionals and get exposure to various areas within the department (e.g. Environment, industrial hygiene, training, risk assessments, safe work procedures etc.) Each day is unique and never routine.
There will be office work (administration), and project based work with some exposure to the production floor and/or lab environment.
This role may require some travel between the 3 pharmaceutical sites (Etobicoke, Signet, Richmond Hill) within the GTA however, the main location will be at the Signet campus (any other travel requirements will be accommodated).
Job ResponsibilitiesAlong with the Environmental Associate, assist with the creation of the chemical inventory in Excel which is the basis for Apotex's environmental regulatory submissions (NPRI, Chemical Weapons, and Chemtrac).
Assist in the preparation of all necessary compliance submissionsAssist the Global EHS director in the preparation of materials (presentations, graphs, etc.) that will analyze safety performance at the global sites.
Assist the Environmental team in performing environmental management system duties, including specific projects as assigned. (e.g. Government submissions, risk assessments, waste audits).Assist in the planning and execution of employee engagement activities related to the environment (e.g. Earth Week, Bike to Work, People Power Challenge, Waste Reduction Week, Apo-Green newsletter).
Develop/revise Safe Work Procedures to support corporate safety policies.
Assist the Coordinator, SHE Hazard Information prepare SDSs and WHMIS related documentation.
Work on defined projects that support worker safety or environmental compliance.
All other duties as assigned
Job Requirements
Must be enrolled in a recognized post-secondary Co-op education program (e.g. Occupational Health & Safety, Chemical or Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science or Business etc.)
Prior experience in an industrial manufacturing environment would be an asset.
Basic Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act or Environmental regulations.
Excellent written and verbal skills.
Strong computer skills in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Second, third or fourth year Occupational Safety and Health student or Environmental engineering/science student preferred.
