Child and Youth Counsellor

The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Care Program provides crisis management, specialized assessments and treatment.

Child & Youth Counselor's (CYC) provide a safe and therapeutic environment, participate in assessment and treatment, and support youth in returning to the community.

CYCs function as members of a multidisciplinary clinical team, working with children, adolescents, and their families, as well as service providers within the hospital and the community.

Regular Part-Time

Rate of Pay:
$27.94 per hour - $30.34 per hour


Qualifications:


  • Successful completion of a three (3) year Child and Youth Counselor diploma from an accredited Community College
  • Minimum of two (2) years recent, related experience in the field of child and youth counseling, preferably in an acute care or hospital setting
  • Certification of Violence Prevention Training or acceptable equivalent to the Hospital
  • Experience working with Child and Adolescents preferred
  • Demonstrated basic computer skills including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Internet and Electronic Patient Record
  • Ability to represent and communicate the role of the CYC to others inside and outside of the Hospital
  • Expertise in the use of physical restraints, knowledge of how and when to use different forms of restraint
  • Demonstrated ability to provide a safe, therapeutic environment for children, youth, and families
  • Ability to assess and meaningfully interact with children, youth and families
  • Ability to selfevaluate professional practice and supervise students
  • Physical and mental ability to carry out the duties of the position
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to the principles of patient and family centred care
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC's Mission, Vision and Values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
