Primary Purpose
The MBA Practicum Coordinator is responsible for supporting the educational and career growth of
students by developing and delivering comprehensive student practicum and career development
services. Throughout the practicum process, the coordinator acts as a liaison between the university, the student, and the employer. The coordinator arranges student practicum information, paperwork, and authorization.
The position encompasses the following areas of responsibility:
practicum, work-integrated learning development and coordination, on-campus recruitment, and program management.
Duties and Responsibilities
Practicum Development and Coordination
- Design, implement, and administer recruitment programs for a diverse group of companies and organizations as well as graduate schools
- Provide leadership in the development and implementation of a viable practicum program
- Build partnerships with organizations that can provide practicum for students
- Consult with employers regarding optimal marketing strategies to connect students with practicum and employment opportunities
- Participate in job fairs organized by the Career Development Centre
- Act as a liaison between the student, university, and practicum or placement provider
- Coordinate industry employer and faculty sponsor assignments and agreements, orientation to practicum roles and responsibilities of employerfaculty sponsorstudent, progress reviews with industry employer and faculty sponsor, and final evaluation upon completion
- Initiate and maintain contacts with employers to develop practicum
- Arrange meetings with faculty and academic department chairs to identify and promote relevant practicum for specific majors
- Conduct site visits to evaluate the appropriateness and relevance of practicums for students
- Develop and revise practicum policies and procedures
- Assess the effectiveness of work integrated learning programs.
Student Support
- Provide students with guidance and information regarding practicum research, options, decisionmaking, and goal setting
- Facilitate student learning by assisting students to secure appropriate practicum
- Provide students with student practicum information, paperwork, and authorization
- Counsel and advise students in practicum planning
On-campus Recruitment
- Assist in the development of employer relations and membership in professional organizations
- Arrange employer visits to campus and meetings with faculty
- Develop and facilitate workshops about job search, i.e., networking at a career fair, using the Internet in job search, resume writing, etc.
Program Management
- Administer oncampus recruiting program and calendar
- Carry out general administration and management by taking a problemsolving approach
- Oversee and supervise student office workers in the reception, communications, appointments, and mail
- Coordinate special events throughout the year, i.e., orientation, and etiquette dinner
- Market services and programs by developing appropriate materials and advertising special events
- Perform other duties and tasks specific to position
Position Requirements
Education
- A bachelor's degree in business, marketing, psychology, communication, public relations, or other related major. Master's degree preferred.
Experience
- 4 to 5 years experience in higher education program administration and understanding of academic culture
- Familiarity with corporate and nonprofit human resource management
- Demonstrated understanding of workintegrated learning education and career advising
- Strong presentation skills and public speaking skills
- Excellent report writing and written communication skills
- A selfstarter with strong analytical and problemsolving skills
- Demonstrated ability to organize and work independently and as part of a team
- Experience with practicum programs or student placements
- Proficiency with MS Office 365 including word processing and database program
