Scope of this RoleThe Chief Financial Officer must be an extremely well organized, take-charge professional who makes things happen, and who has a strong orientation to quality, accuracy, and timeliness.
This position requires far more than just an accountant.The individual must have seasoned business savvy and be value-added, constantly maintaining a "big picture" perspective relative to long-term objectives as well as current Company operations, performance, profitability and goal achievement.
Strategically, the CFO will help set the growth agenda and provide sound analysis and judgment on the financial impact related to growth investments and new management contracts.
The will be able to outline the financial vision for Obasa Hotels; at the same time, the Chief Financial Officer must be entrepreneurial and detail-oriented, willing to roll up their sleeves and be hands-on whenever necessary.
He or she must have an analytical mind sufficient to access business performance and opportunities, as well as to evaluate problems and develop solutions.
Main Areas of Responsibility- The Chief Financial Officer must be an open, willing communicator who is not uncomfortable or shy dealing directly with challenging issues. Communication is a key ingredient to success in this position.
- Strong ability to understand, analyze, and digest the business models and economics of various business and growth scenarios for the purpose of identifying ROI potential and financial risk.
- Ability to effectively manage the strategic planning process, under the general direction of the CEO.
- Ability to work closely with CEO and senior management team on the execution of new development ventures once they have been identified and approved.
- Sufficient operating experience to assess what operational complexities may render a financial plan impossible to execute.
- Ability to fully comprehend the unique value proposition of Obasa Hotels for each market within which it operates and conceptualize how such could be further extended into other markets.
- Experience in the capacity of CFO, preferably in a growthoriented, entrepreneurial environment.
- Experience in external fund raising, dealing with institutional investors and underwriters.
- Solid background in operational finance and experience working with operating executives.
- Indepth capacity for understanding tax, legal and structural issues in domestic and international deal making and how they impact overall corporate financial accounting and tax management/planning.
- Ability to create and maintain excellent senior level banking relationships with major financial institutions.
- Ability to understand and conceive of how information technology can be used strategically within a complex environment for cost reduction, quality enhancement and increased productivity.
- Understanding of cofinancing, joint ventures, M&A and other expansion scenarios and how they impact Obasa Hotels' business model within each of its operating divisions.
- Excellent assessment and due diligence capabilities.
- Ability to work closely with various external legal and financial advisors.
- Superb negotiating style and effectiveness.
A minimum of 15 years overall business experience with a progression of finance positions that include a range of accounting, control and FP&A roles.
Hospitality ExperiencePreferably some of which will have been in an entrepreneurial setting.
Technical Expertise
Early career in technical accounting roles, i.e., public accounting and/or well-respected global corporations is preferred.
CPA designation required.
Canadian and US accounting knowledge and experience is required.
Minimum 10 years of full cycle, industry-relevant financial management experience.
Experience leading and building a scalable and disciplined accounting team.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and promote high performance.
Advanced working knowledge of MS Excel, Word and QuickBooks.
Positive and productive attitude and the ability to work with all levels of clients, senior leadership, account leaders and staff.
Strong organizational skills that reflect the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.Excellent problem-solving skills; ability to proactively consider and address needs and respond to requests promptly.
