The opportunity:

The University of Manitoba is looking for a Manager, Financial Analysis & Reporting. This role will be responsible for the leadership and day-to-day administration of the Financial Analysis and Reporting department.

The individual in this role is tasked with enhancing departmental efficiency by proposing recommendations for departmental organization, financial systems, policies, and overall functions.


Additionally, the Manager, Financial Analysis & Reporting is responsible for overseeing and reporting on the University's operating expenses through the development and execution of a compliance framework, risk-based oversight approach developed for execution by the faculties and units, as well as for the public reporting of presidential expenses.


The qualifications and experience we're looking for:

  • An undergraduate degree in a related discipline is required. A Commerce degree with a major in Accounting or Finance is preferred.
  • A professional accounting designation is required (CPA).
  • A minimum of five years of directlyrelated postdesignation accounting experience including two years of managerial experience is required.
  • Experience working with budget development, forecast development, and experience analyzing, reviewing and providing recommendations on budgetary and forecast information is required.
  • Experience in the identification of financial reporting needs and developing financial reporting to meet the needs of stakeholders is required.
  • Experience with interpreting policies, agreements and guidelines, conducting oversight and monitoring compliance with such, and the implementation of internal controls, system enhancements and processes to support this is required.
  • Experience in compliance framework development, auditing for compliance and/or conducting financial statement and internal control audits is required.
  • Experience communicating financial information to nonfinancial staff and faculty is required.
  • Experience advising on financial best practices, policies and procedures is required.
  • Experience working in a complex, computerized accounting environment is essential.
  • Experience in a University environment would be an asset.
  • Experience conducting financial and system training is preferred.
  • Experience with policy development is preferred.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Advanced proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite is required.
  • Ability to prepare and review complex financial information with close attention to detail and accuracy is required.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively (both orally and written) with all levels of staff and public in a diplomatic, firm but tactual manner is essential.
  • Must be skilled in the analysis of budget, financial, and system information.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service is required.
  • Must be able to organize and prioritize work own work and work of the department, and ensure tasks are completed in a timely manner.
  • Ability to adapt to and implement change is essential.
  • Must possess both leadership and managerial skills to motivate, manage and train employees while ensuring departmental operations are consistently supported.
  • A sound knowledge of University policy and procedures is desirable.
  • Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
