Description:


The Fish and Wildlife Compensation Program (FWCP) section of the Ministry of Forests (FOR) leads the long-term management of invasive plant species on conservation properties and ecological restoration units in the West Kootenay to maintain and conserve their habitat values.

We are seeking
two invasive species technicians to work with the FWCP crew leader to survey, map, and treat priority invasive species at these locations.


Specific Duties:


Qualifications:


  • Physically fit and willing to work eighthour shifts hiking, pulling and digging, lifting and carrying up to 25 kg, and operating light machinery (weed whackers and brush saws).
  • Comfortable working in remote and rugged conditions, including in high temperatures.
  • Positive attitude towards manual labour, working with other crew members, getting the job done, and improving habitat for wildlife.
  • A valid driver's license with 2+ years of driving experience and experience operating 4x4 vehicles.
  • Safetyoriented.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule during the week.
  • Available to start work on Monday, May 29th.

Assets:


  • First aid training.
  • Ability to problem solve and repair equipment in the field.
  • Background in natural resource management.
  • Familiarity with West Kootenay plants including invasive species
