    The mission of the Pharmacy department is to provide comprehensive, seamless, and patient-centred care to improve the quality and safety of the medication therapy for all patients we serve. We achieve this through collaboration, education, leadership, and innovation. Pharmacy Technical Grads support and enable the medication system and the provision of various pharmacy services. Pharmacy Technical grads perform a limited number of technical functions. Work performed by Pharmacy Grads is supervised and checked by a Regulated Pharmacy Technician (R. Ph. T.) or Registered Pharmacist (R. Ph.)

    DUTIES:

  • Processing drug orders under direct supervision and checking by RPhT. or RPh.
  • Medication Packaging and bar coding of unit dose medication with independent final check
  • Filling Medication for Unit Dose Carts
  • Sterile compounding of simple, non-hazardous products (e.g. Risk Level 1 under USP 797) (Narcotic and controlled substances drug distribution under supervision of RPhT.
  • Problem solving, communication and liaison within their scope of responsibility both within and outside the Pharmacy Department
  • QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate of an Accredited Pharmacy Technician Program
  • Actively pursuing registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the Ontario College of Pharmacists
  • Previous experience working in hospital pharmacy preferred but not required
  • Excellent communication, inter-personal, problem solving, critical thinking, accuracy, ability to maintain accuracy in a repetitive work environment, and organizational skills; and a demonstrated ability to function in a team environment
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Excellent attendance record
  • A willingness and commitment to pursue life-long self-directed learning
  • Demonstrated commitment to the mission and values of Unity Health Toronto
  • For qualified individuals who are hired into this role, and commits to completion of registration as Registered Pharmacy technician with OCP as well as a career at Unity Health Toronto, sponsorship to OCP administrative fees will be provided. This will be discussed during the interview and employment offering time.
