Heidelberg Materials is seeking a
Cement Terminal Superintendent to join our team.

This position can be located in the lower mainland or based out of our Cement Plant in Delta, BC, and reports directly to the Northwest Region Cement Terminal Manager.

The Cement Terminal Superintendent is responsible for all operational aspects of the cement terminals in British Columbia. The terminal sites include Bamberton, Kamloops, Prince George, Kitimat, and Fort St John. Travel up to 50% in the specified areas will be required.


What You'll Get To Do

  • Ensure that all operational activities are performed within the Health and Safety guidelines of the company and the operating jurisdiction. Proactively ensure that all employees and contractors are working in a safe manner and within Heidelberg Materials' Zero Harm culture
  • Supervise terminal employees and manage contractors to ensure that company operating procedures in safety, maintenance, asset management, environmental and inventory control are properly carried out
  • Scheduling of terminal operators as required
  • Look for continuous improvement opportunities in all aspects of the business
  • In conjunction with the Terminal Manager, ensure terminals maintain proper staffing that supports appropriate customer requirements
  • Assist in the preparation of capital and operating plans for terminals, including but not limited to project planning, gathering of quotes, hazard assessments, and project management
  • Monitor monthly terminal expenses and direct corrective action when they exceed the plan
  • Responsible for ontime delivery of the product to customers and lead communication to the management team in the event of site shutdowns
  • Employ systems to track rail car, truck, or barge movements as required
  • Interface with Region Sales Team as required
  • Actively assist in the continuous personal development of terminal employees
  • Ensure compliance requirements are met through organizational and procedural measures including implementation of Group guidelines, completion of required training, and monitoring compliance
  • Other duties as required based on terminal scheduling and circumstances

Essential Experience and Skills:


  • High School Diploma
  • Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office
  • Supervision experience
  • Knowledge of invoicing and vendor payment procedures
  • Working knowledge of railroad and trucking operations and practices
  • Knowledge of applicable provincial safety legislation and environmental regulations
  • Effective communication, interpersonal, and time management skills
  • Ability to make timely critical decisions in a fastpaced multitask setting
  • Ability to work independently and be selfmotivated
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement

Preferred Experience and Skills:


  • Postsecondary degree is preferred or a combination of education and related industrial supervisory experience.
  • Cement industry understanding with a background in distribution and transportation
  • Working knowledge of SAP software

Work Environment:


The role operates primarily at manufacturing office locations where the conditions include moving mechanical equipment, dust, inclement weather, heat, humidity, and elevated noise levels.
