Position Summary
Under the direction of the Supervisor, the Bekaadendang Anti Human Trafficking Program the Under the Holistic Support Worker-Family Focus will:

  • Provide support to families, especially caregivers, whose loved ones (especially those under 18) are survivors of or at risk for experiences of sexual exploitation.
  • Work with families and collaterals to address family conflict, so that everyone in the family feels safe, heard, and supported.
  • Work collaboratively with CARE Community Liaison and other team members to develop protocols, processes and best practices in supporting Indigenous community members interfacing with human trafficking.
  • Provide culturally connected wraparound support to community members, including case management, safety planning, crisis intervention, transitional support, advocacy, supportive counselling and harm reduction.
  • Support with Bekaadendang outreach initiatives with a particular focus on the Scarborough and Mount Dennis communities.
  • Maintain accurate, cohesive records and data management through internal systems.
  • Work independently and as part of a team.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A BSW or related degree, with 12 years experience, or a combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Preferred lived Indigenous experience and active participation in the Indigenous community
  • Strong connections with the Toronto Indigenous community
  • High literacy in Indigenous cultures and a concrete understanding of the unique dynamics that exist within the community.
  • Competent understanding of human trafficking and impacts on Indigenous community.
  • Understanding of addictions and mental health and health issues that may impact Indigenous youth.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, counselling and crisis management skills.
  • Knowledge of the legislation pertaining to various systems, including the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, the Canadian Criminal Code, and the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
  • Demonstrated understanding of workplace Health and Safety practices and understanding of an employee's responsibility under current legislation.
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to integrating the Native Child and Family Services of Toronto Mission and values in to practice, service and relationships.
  • Excellent analytical, time management and organization skills.
  • Strong report writing, communication and computer skills.
  • A willingness to obtain and pass a Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends if needed.
