INDIGENOUS RELATIONS ADVISOR (2 POSITIONS):

($75, $85,593.47 Annually)

***Reporting to the Director Indigenous Relations, the Indigenous Relations Advisor is responsible for promoting and facilitating partnerships and developing engagement strategies to address Indigenous housing needs and capacity building within the Indigenous sector. He/she/they performs research and analysis to support the development of programs and initiatives to strengthen Indigenous engagement and consultation. The position establishes and maintains effective working relationships with various internal and external stakeholders including Indigenous communities, organizations and institutions.


CANDIDATE PROFILE

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE**:


  • Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Public Policy and Planning, Social Science with a focus in Indigenous Studies or a relevant field.
  • Considerable experience in Indigenous consultation and engagement, capacity building and community development.
  • Considerable experience working with Indigenous associations and nonprofit societies in the delivery of social housing services and communitybased programs.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience acceptable to the Employer.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


  • Considerable knowledge of Indigenous cultures, leadership structures, consultation/engagement strategies and the issues facing the sector with respect to housing and community support.
  • Considerable knowledge and understanding of nonprofit society governance, management and operation
  • Ability to learn and understand the mandate, organization, strategic direction, policies and programs of BC Housing and their relevance to the Indigenous sector
  • Ability to establish a strategic framework to support the development and coordination of BC Housing's activities in addressing Indigenous housing needs and increasing selfreliance within the sector
  • Ability to think conceptually, analyze and solve complex issues, exercise sound judgment and make effective recommendations
  • Ability to establish and maintain constructive working relationships with partners and stakeholders to meet program mandates and address a variety of issues.
  • Effective consultative, facilitation, consensus building, problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Effective leadership, verbal and written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Effective planning, organizational and time management skills
