The International Transition, Retention, and Support Coordinator will be instrumental in holistically supporting International students throughout their journey at Canadore College.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Threeyear Diploma/Degree in a field related to student development theories, student engagement, leadership studies, adult learning, and/or training
  • Minimum five years of recent experience working in the development, implementation, and facilitation of studentcentered programs designed to support student engagement, student leadership, and student success in higher education, preferably within an international student context
  • Advanced knowledge of student development theories specializing in student leadership, engagement, and success in higher education
  • Experience in evaluating student success programs and working independently to assess student needs/barriers/challenges for ongoing case management purposes and working to develop learning plans and monitor progress
  • Demonstrated commitment to cultivating a vibrant, diverse, and inclusive environment rooted in a culture of mutual respect
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and work on multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Sound judgement and problemsolving skills with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a customerfocused environment
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with Student Engagement Platforms (i.e., UniHub) considered an asset
  • Lived experience as an international student, preferably in an Ontario postsecondary institution
  • Fluency in a second language other than English is strongly preferred. Languages considered include Hindi, Punjabi, Mandarin, Arabic, Farsi, Vietnamese, Tagalog, Bahasa, Spanish or Portuguese
  • Must be able to reliably commute daily and/or relocate to North Bay, ON

DUTIES:


  • Provide International Student Success coaching and learning support
  • Work individually with international students to create and monitor the progress of Student Learning Plans that support academic, social, emotional, and mental growth
  • Collaborate with Student Success Staff to facilitate and/or lead small group sessions/workshops on specific topics to support and enhance students' personal and academic success
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of college academic programs, student services, and policies to explain/interpret College processes, regulations, and policies
  • Triage international student inquiries, troubleshoot concerns as necessary, and consult with direct Supervisor when needed
  • Refer to international students when appropriate to Accessible Learning Services for support for documented or suspected disability
  • Provide proactive mental health and wellbeing support to international students
  • Provide transition and retention support to international students
  • Provide ongoing support and advocacy supports to students' life issues related to transition and acculturation within a diverse environment
  • Liaise with the International Student Services Coordinator to support international students by offering programming or individual support that addresses common transitional concerns
  • Provide support for events and activities organized to support international student retention, success, integration, and engagement
  • Keep current on issues and challenges impacting international students and engage in reflective practice
  • Develop, implement, and coordinate student retention and success processes and make recommendations to the Supervisor based on retention plans and data collection
  • Develop evaluation methods to improve future service delivery
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of resources, materials, literature, and research related to international student leadership, student success, and engagement
  • Follow recommended guidelines, systems, and prescribed and nonprescribed processes when supporting and documenting student interactions and accommodation plans
  • Track academic progress of students participating in student success programs/workshops by assessing each individual student's improvement in their academic standing and retention rates
  • Maintain documentation and reports related to international student success programs
  • Actively participate in regular meetings with direct Supervisor, departmental meetings, and other meetings as needed
  • Represent the College on internal and external committees, as required ensuring the divisions and College's interests are represented
