How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:
The Overnight Teaching Assistant supports immersive, curriculum connected overnight school visits at TRCA's overnight Education Centres.

This position involves teaching curriculum-linked programs to visiting school groups, supporting meal time delivery, overnight site contact, and completing administrative duties.


Major Responsibilities:


  • Teaches curriculum linked lessons and provides onsite overnight livein support and supervision to visiting school group visitors.
  • Assists with or leads instruction in education centre programs, while providing overnight onsite support.
  • Performs administrative and clerical duties as assigned by onsite supervisor.
  • Inspects building before and after groups arrive and inspects and repairs program equipment or supplies.
  • As time permits, develops new individual games and activities that update existing lessons.
  • Manages and monitors confidential information (students and teacher forms) including dietary restrictions, dorm plans and health/consent waivers, reviews student health and consent forms and requests for accommodations.
  • Supports the needs of Lake St George Field Centre to ensure a positive visitor experience.
  • Supports group arrival and departure and assists with facility tours.
  • Provides overnight onsite, oncall support.
  • Conducts light cleaning duties including cleaning tables, program materials etc.
  • Works with kitchen services to ensure visitor dietary restrictions are met and manages mealtime delivery to ensure they run smoothly and on time.
  • Maintains first aid stations; administers first aid as required.

What will you need to succeed:
Education (degree/diploma/certifications/licenses)

  • Completion of college diploma in Environmental Studies, Outdoor Recreation, or related field.
  • Valid Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level C Certification.
  • Valid Ontario Class G2 driver's license.
Experience

  • 1+ years of experience related to major tasks.
Knowledge/Skill/Ability - Competencies

  • Able to selfmanage workload and prioritize tasks independently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with tact and courtesy.
  • Ability to identify and implement best practices and solutions to improve customer services.
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively identify problems in a timely manner, seeking the appropriate level of support to solve issues.
  • Strong communication skills to provide clear and concise communication in both nonemergency and emergency situations.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite including online software such as MS teams, WebEx, and SharePoint).
  • Knowledge of best management practices, and uptodate knowledge of mitigation and controls, as well as safe work procedures.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act, related regulations and legislation.
