About the Opportunity:


Reporting to the Director, Interprofessional Practice and Learning and Director, People and Belonging, you are responsible for leadership and operation of the equity, diversity, inclusion, reconciliation & accessibility (EDIRA) initiatives and programs across the organization, effectively leading policies and practices, contributing across disciplines and building and maintaining strong community partnerships.


Some of the responsibilities are:

  • Consultation, creation, implementation and promotion of diversity and engagement strategies, policies, guidelines, standards, programs and services that are aligned with IWK Health's EDIRA goals.
  • Ensuring operational service delivery by providing direction to their team, People and Organization Development and Interprofessional Practice and Learning teams, and across the organization, on integration of best practice.
  • Overall leadership regarding all matters of equity and inclusion of staff, physicians, volunteers, and learners at IWK Health.
  • Collaborating with system partners on provincial initiatives related to Health Equity and Engagement.
  • Providing timely and accurate direction, advice, and recommendations to key internal and external partners on matters pertaining to the advancement of key delivery elements of the diversity and inclusion framework, as well as strategic priorities of the organization and the system.
  • Supporting the Indigenous Health Consultant to advance priority action and reconciliation initiatives on language, patient and family experience, cultural awareness and safety, access to services and Indigenous practices.
  • Working with system partners to ensure that the organization meets the requirements of the Accessibility Act by engaging with community and developing and implementing and action plan.
  • Consulting with IWK staff and community organizations that represent diverse populations and informing next steps for implementing the diversity and inclusion strategy.
  • Overall leadership regarding matters of IWK's language services, which includes interpretation and translation.
  • Collaborating and works closely with Primary Health Care at NSH, to support the NSH and IWK Health partnered prideHealth programs.

About You:

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Proven commitment to anti-racism, diversity, equity, and belonging initiatives paired with a post-secondary degree in related health discipline, diversity studies, psychology or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Seven (7) years of experience in promoting health equity and diversity, demonstrating progressive responsibilities within career. Within this seven years, two years of experience in formal or informal leadership roles in a complex multiunion environment or unionized health care sector experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current practices and trends in diversity and belonging.
  • Diversity, equity, and belonging practitioner with knowledge of Truth and Reconciliation calls to action, African Nova Scotian call to action, Indigenous engagement and relations, 2SLGBTQIA+ health, Access by Design 2030, Nova Scotia's Culture Action Plan, etc.
  • Competencies in other languages considered an asset.
