Technological Studies Technician - Hospitality

Lisgar Collegiate Institute


Position Status:
Regular, 50%


Work Year:
Works 10 months per year


Hours of Work:
Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m., 18.75 hours per week


Salary range:
$15.65 to $19.66 per hour


Under the supervision of the school Principal and the Head of Technological Studies, the Technological Studies Technician - Hospitality will work primarily with the teacher of Food Services to facilitate technological studies activities.


Qualifications:


Completion of secondary school diploma specializing in culinary arts, or equivalent, and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.

Food Handler certification, First Aid/CPR certification, and Canadian Red Seal/Cook are definite assets.


Knowledge of specifications for industry food products and practices, commercial kitchens and commercial food preparation, and the sanitization of commercial kitchens.

Knowledge of relevant health and safety acts and regulations.

Ability to demonstrate safe work habits.


Requirement of mathematical skills for daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliation; understanding of basic business practices for balancing accounts and maintaining records.


Interpersonal and communication skills to motivate/coach/train and act as a role model for students, receive information and respond to telephone calls, exchange information, report on student performance using tact and diplomacy.

Ability to use kitchen equipment.
