Our Team:


The Health, Safety, and Risk North Atlantic Operations Team provides leadership in terms of execution of the health, safety, and operational risk management strategies for our Ontario Operations.

In doing so the team enables the operations to meet business objectives and achieve outstanding outcomes focused on prioritizing, planning, and delivering on performance improvement areas.


The Opportunity
We are currently seeking
a Superintendent Health Safety & Risk (HSR) - Mining to support the operations in Ontario. This is a
permanent position based in Sudbury, Ontario.


This role provides leadership and coordinates the work of the Health, Safety and Risk Business Partners and Safety Supervisors within the Ontario Mines and Processing Plants.

The HSR Superintendent leads divisional program development and the upkeep of current programs required under federal and provincial legislation, including the occupational health and safety management systems, and also support corporate programs such as the Safe Work Program, and the Management of Change program.

This role is also responsible for communicating, planning and executing work related to any regulatory changes.

The HSR Superintendent will also help with the analysis and analytics of on our safety performance and put forward actions to address deficiencies.

Additionally, in this position you will be accountable for:

  • Providing resources and tools to the HS group to service and support the various stakeholders.
  • Supporting the development of execution plan strategies and implement operating plans for the area(s) of responsibility, taking into account, targets and related actions to reduce incident frequency rates, environmental performance, production output, quality, costs and capital expenditures.
  • Contributing to the implementation of new systems and processes and provides guidance, auditing, mentoring and analysis support to the management team.
  • Working closely with Provincial and Federal regulatory agencies to ensure Health and Safety Compliance for the operation as a whole.
  • Taking a lead role in the development of programs and services that take into consideration relevant legislation, Vale processes, health hazards and SHE case law.

About You

Education:


  • Undergraduate degree in a related discipline.

Experience:


  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in in mining underground and processing plant operations.

Skills:


  • Exceptional people leadership skills, including mentoring and coaching skills.
  • Strategic thinking and effective decision making.
  • Exceptional problemsolving skills and abilities.
  • Formal education in Minerals Industry Risk Management is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of OHSA, regulations and industry standards.
  • Building relationships, collaboration, and teamwork in the provision of HSR services.
  • Power user of Excel, Power BI, and other MS tools.
