Reporting to the Supply Chain Manager, the scope of this position involves hands-on planning, analysis, execution of purchasing and supply chain activities across the organization, for several locations.
The Buyer/Purchaser participates in the training and mentoring of the purchasing and supply chain team and is an active member within the group, ensuring product is ordered and delivered in a timely fashion while meeting quality and budget objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Run MRP daily to interrogate and execute requisitions
- Work with vendors to satisfy their scopes of delivery based on agreed terms.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key vendors.
- Monitor vendor capacity to ensure they are not overloaded, and where necessary, divert work to different areas of the supply chain.
- Identify systematic issues within the supply chain and make recommendations for corrective actions.
- Ensure that suppliers are meeting delivery deadlines.
- Daily tracking of overdue and partially delivered POs.
- When required, establish new vendors and supply chains to support the growth of the organization.
- Participate in demand trending and inventory level planning. Make recommendations and changes where appropriate.
- Participate and, from time to time, lead strategic procurement projects; annual supply contracts, turnkey supply contracts, competitive procurement etc.
- Ensure that inventory levels are always maintained in accordance with the established MRP policy.
- Support warehouse coordinators in expediting product and prioritizing pick, pack, and ship activities.
- Investigate inventory discrepancies, execute cycle counts, assist in a leading role for full inventory counts, identify root cause, recommend preventative plans, and correct inventory as required.
- Create items and bills of materials as required from time to time.
- Adhoc projects as assigned, based on current and changing business needs.
- Participate in process improvement and MRP/ERP development.
- Other duties as assigned by management from time to time.
Qualifications:
- Postsecondary education in Procurement, and/or Supply chain Management
- 4+ years of relevant work experience in a procurement environment as a buyer
- Experience and working knowledge of ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics knowledge considered an asset)
- Excellent interpersonal & communication skills, including written and verbal
- Ability to negotiate and influence people
- Strong data analysis skills, coupled with demonstrated attention to details and accurate results
- Familiar with total quality management and continuous improvement processes
- Proven ability to make decisions and problem solve
- Strong computer skills experience with MS NAV and MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
- Mechanical knowledge considered an asset
