THE ORGANIZATION


With a lean, loyal, and productive team of 24 employees, this Local Distribution Company (LDC), or 'the Utility' distributes power and related services inside the Town of Wasaga Beach, a vibrant community, with an ever-growing population.

The present population is more than 25,000 and comprises a total service area of 61 square kilometres.

The Utility serves approximately 15,000 residential and commercial customers and has more than 235 kilometres of conductor, both overhead and underground.

The electrical power distribution system has more than 1,400 distribution transformers, and nearly 5,000 poles in service, supplied by one shared and five owned distribution stations.

The Town of Wasaga Beach is one of the fastest-growing communities in Ontario


CANDIDATE RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Manager of Engineering, the Locator/Service Person is accountable for the following main responsibilities:

  • Accurately perform cable locates to ensure the safety of the public and contractors while maintaining the integrity of the system and exercising good judgment; Record locate findings accurately for use by the Company, customers and others;
  • Maintain good customer and public relations while working independently, balancing workload and consistently meeting deadlines;
  • Search, retrieve and interpret data from the GIS and report any anomalies to the GIS Department;
  • Ensure that the Occupational Health & Safety Act, IHSA rulebook, corporate policies and procedures are followed;
  • Maintaining transmitters and locator equipment to ensure locates are done efficiently and accurately;
  • Working safely and efficiently complying with health and safety legislation/regulations and departmental policies/procedures/practices;Ensuring that all necessary personal protective equipment (e.g. safety boots, hard hat, reflective vest, gloves, hearing protection, eye protection, ) are used and maintained in good condition; and
  • Other duties providing backup support to other Departments, as assigned, that are in accordance with job responsibilities and/or necessary departmental or corporate objectives.

EDUCATION/PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-Secondary Diploma in Electrical Engineering, a Licensed Electrician in Ontario, or recognized
  • Cable Locating Certificate is preferred.
  • A minimum of one year of jobrelated experience in the industry is preferred.
This position is a full-time union position based on the IBEW Collective Agreement.

The successful applicant must be physically able and willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions and assist with after-hours emergencies as required.
