Qualifications:


  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalency.
  • Completion of one (1) year community college quantity cooking course.
  • Recent completion of National Sanitation Program including working knowledge and experience in HACCP procedures.
  • Experience in maintaining a safe and sanitary work environment.
  • Working knowledge of WHMIS legislation.
  • Working knowledge of therapeutic diets and familiar with dietary requirements of geriatric residents.
  • Ability to attend work on a regular and consistent basis.
  • Previous institutional experience preferred.

Job Scope:

The cook is responsible for food preparation and service of meals in accordance with the menus and Diet Standards. Maintains a high standard of safety and sanitation in cleaning of equipment and work areas. Provides staff training, guidance and supervision as required and assists in planning menus. Planning and preparation of caterings as required.


General Duties:


  • Preps and cooks food and bake items in accordance with menu and diet orders as required.
  • Makes and assembles plans and delivers caterings as required.
  • Receives food and supplies as needed.
  • Assists with inventory.
  • Washes pots and pans and other dishes as required and stores appropriately.
  • Ensures food is held and stored at safe temperatures.
  • Participates in menu and recipe development
  • Maintains & cleans equipment, supplies, and utensils.
  • Maintains a clean and sanitary work area.
  • Cleans and safely utilizes equipment, according to guidelines.
  • Reports all necessary repairs and equipment malfunctions to the supervisor.
  • Reports any fire and safety hazards to the supervisor.
  • Is familiar with facility policies and procedures, Fire and Safety and Emergency procedures and carries out guidelines of same.
  • Supervises staff in the absence of the supervisor.
  • To be neat in appearance and have a pleasant attitude to residents, visitors and coworkers.
  • Performs other jobrelated duties as required.

Working Conditions

  • Caution must be used when handling chemicals.
  • Caution must be used with equipment.
