POSITION PURPOSE


Reporting to the Program Manager, Social Policy, is responsible for researching, and providing advice and support on public policies, emerging legislation, industry practices, various human services related initiatives at York Region and across its nine municipalities; project management including developing and coordinating policies and programs including the management of liaison activities with stakeholders; developing stakeholder relationships that foster collaboration and innovation; budgeting, financial reporting and planning; supporting Branch projects; developing written information and materials for presentations.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Researches, develops and recommends policy affecting the department, branch and unit and be able to make appropriate and accurate recommendations including policy recommendations, that reflects the connections to the various work.
  • Assesses the changing social, economic, fiscal and political environments and advises the Department on policy or program implications.
  • Provides support to management to establish and implement business plans, monitors and provides progress updates.
  • Prepares reports and correspondence, as required, and attends committees and meetings related to work assignments such as but not limited to work involving the Human Services Planning Board of York Region.
  • Provides project management including conceptualizing, work planning, resourcing and evaluating various shortterm projects; procurement and management of external resources as required.
  • Leads various components of committee, boards and working group support, as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, in accordance with Branch and Department objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Successful completion of a University Degree in Business or Public Administration, Political Science, Planning or related field or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years' experience in project management, policy analysis, planning or human services experience leading multistakeholder projects and programs in a public sector environment.
  • Valid Ontario Class "G" driver's license free of serious offences under the Highway Traffic Act.
  • Thorough knowledge of project management principles, concepts, practices, methods and legislation.
  • Knowledge of policy, programs, relevant legislation and the implications of political and environmental influences that affect the delivery and funding of housing.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including communication, innovation, teamwork and collaboration, and personal ownership.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of research and evaluation methods, including experience interpreting and reporting statistical data, and writing detailed reports and proposals.
  • Experience conducting extensive literature reviews, including the ability to summarize complex data into understandable, userfriendly, relevant explanations for a varied audience.
