The Manager People & Safety will report to the CEO and play a key role in supporting a values-driven culture focused on providing our employees and stakeholders excellent service and support.

The incumbent is primarily responsible for partnering with the business to design, develop and implement programs that will attract, engage, and develop employees and support & enhance the Corporation's Safety program.


This role collaborates with the Executive team to ensure policies, programs and practices in Human Resources and Health & Safety are legislatively compliant and consistent with the vision and direction of Festival Hydro.

The Manager also has overall responsibility for Payroll, Pension, Benefits and WSIB.

+ WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

Responsibilities include (but may not be limited to):

  • Ensure the CEO and Executive are kept informed of emerging issues and progress on key work plans, critical business decisions, and the status of established goals & objectives.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of KPI's and service delivery initiatives to impact the efficient and effective operation of the human resources and health and safety functions.
  • Prepare Board package submissions, attend meetings and present applicable updates and board reports. Support Board or Directors recruitment requirements.
  • Develop and implement operating policies and procedures for human resources and health and safety in support of the overall strategic plan.
  • Provide specialized guidance, coaching and mentoring to staff responsible for payroll, benefits, pension. Develop, support and lead training and development programs and initiatives across the organization.
  • Manage the annual performance evaluation program, ensuring the program(s) integrity and that all leaders are setting objectives and reasonable measures of success, tied to both merit and incentive pay expectations. Develop and undertake a progressive and interactive onboarding process for all new employees, inclusive of Safety onboarding requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with Executives and Managers to execute yearly objectives that meet the needs of the organization and its priorities.
  • Responsible for effective employee and labour relations initiatives to support the managers and employees.
  • Provide interpretation of the collective agreement, participate in grievance meetings and other union meetings regarding labour relations issues, and act as the management representative for required committees.
  • Plan for and participate in the bargaining process, i.e., research, draft language and prepare reports. Manage and deal directly with workplace complaints, including investigating, retention of documentation, and resolving complaints.
  • Administer the Disability Management and Return to Work programs including workers' compensation claims and Accommodation Procedure, WSIB and Family and Employee Assistance programs.
  • Act as the designated internal Health & Safety lead; establish Health and Safety initiatives and develop, implement, and maintain programs and policies to ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and contractual obligations.
  • Participate in the Joint Health & Safety Committee as the Certified Management Rep and Management Co
  • Chair.
  • Direct the administration of the Job Evaluation Program ensuring organizational compliance with the Terms of Reference and Pay Equity legislation.
  • Champion Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives for the organization.
  • Act as the Privacy Officer for the organization.

+ WHAT SKILLS & EXPERIENCE YOU'LL BRING

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or related discipline, or Human Resources Management Certificate. Certified Human Resources professional designation CHRL or CHRE considered an asset.
