Unit/Project Description:


An experienced
Statistical Analyst is required in the
Department of Medicine to work with the
CHILD Cohort Study, a national birth cohort study involving over 3,300 Canadian child and their families.

The Study explores how genetics and early childhood environmental exposures impact the development of asthma, allergies, and other chronic childhood diseases.

The Study has participation sites in Vancouver, Edmonton, Winnipeg (and surrounding towns) and Toronto, with the National Coordinating Center (NCC) headquartered at McMaster University.

We seek a creative and methodologically trained statistical analyst to join our team.


Job Summary:


Purpose and Key Functions:


  • Compile and analyze data and interpret trends, fluctuations, and other changes that may emerge.
  • Develop forms and procedures required for the collection and compilation of data.
  • Oversee the design and maintenance of databases, data collection forms, error checking methods, and related programs for collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Design database specifications and modify existing software packages to meet specific research project needs.
  • Document new designs, codes, and modifications.
  • Develop test cases and test system upgrades and enhancements.
  • Write sections of scientific papers, funding proposals, grants, and abstracts.
  • Conduct data audits, compile results, analyze and summarize audit findings.
  • Coordinate and manage the collection, delivery, entry, verification, analysis, and reporting of data.
  • Provide advice regarding data collection and analysis required for research projects.
  • Recommend modifications to processes related to data collection and data entry conventions and develop implementation plans.
  • Research pertinent literature in a designed project area and analyze the applicability of the concepts.
  • Develop and deliver presentations and training sessions.

Supervision:


  • Provide lead hand supervision and is responsible for the quality and quantity of work of others.

Requirements:


  • Master's degree in Statistics or related field of study.
  • Requires 3 years of relevant experience.

Assets:


  • Integrating data from discrete datasets
  • Data modelling and database design for research dataset
  • Creating graphical representations of very high level, physical and logical models and other schemata for various project proposals
  • Developing and providing reports for participating investigators and stakeholders based on the aforementioned data
  • Performing data management to ensure accuracy, quality, and consistency
  • Extracting data merged from different data formats obtained from the project portal
  • Conducting procedures for data cleaning, translation and verification
  • Communicating effectively and independently with project stakeholders to elicit requirements
  • Performing data validation and massaging to ensure accuracy and quality of data
  • Assisting in the supervision and mentorship of staff and students.

Additional Information:


  • This position is for a Statistical Analyst with experience in data technologies, such as: SQL, XML, REST, SAS health care data exchange standards such as HL7, HL7 FIHR.
  • In addition, some programming experience with R, SAS, Python or similar statistical computing and data analysis programming languages.
  • Experience with electronic data capture (EDC) systems, such as REDCap and Open Specimen, database development, and in data mining for advanced analysis of data and large volume data conversion, data cleansing is an asset.
