Homestay Coordinator


Responsibilities:

Assists in the ongoing evaluations of homestays to ensure they are meeting program standards and students' needs/expectations. Reports non-compliant families to the District Principal - International Programs.

Participates in the orientation of new homestay students and families.


Generates regular communication to homestay families (e

g:

monthly newsletter, homestay website, etc.).

Supports international students by delivering presentations (one-on-one or as part of orientation) on successful homestay environments.

Ensures proper documentation for travel purposes and assists with coordination of medical plans.


Assists in problem-solving student and homestay related issues and guides students and families in emergent or crisis situations, in collaboration with the Homestay team.

Perform other duties as assigned by the District Principal of International Student Programs.


The successful applicant will possess:

Post secondary degree in education, counselling, conflict resolution or interculturalism, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience working with international students in a cross-cultural environment.

Demonstrated ability to communicate with understanding and sensitivity.

Experience working in a homestay service or program preferred.

Fluency in English (written and spoken).

Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.

Ability to develop effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels.

Ability to use tact and professionalism to effectively resolve conflict situations.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and to exercise sound judgement and discretion.

Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.

Proven ability to respond to others in a positive, non-adversarial, solutions-oriented approach.

Excellent leadership skills, especially when faced with stressful or sensitive situations.

Ability to work independently and as a member of a diverse team.

Ability to use standard office equipment and proficiency with MS Office.

Experience using database programs and administrative software.

A valid BC driver's license, safe driving record and access to a personal vehicle.

Ability to work weekends and evenings, and a flexible work schedule as required.

Availability to work on-call for student emergencies, on a rotational basis with the Homestay team.
