Summer Communications Design Assistant
Location:
Métis Nation of Alberta Provincial Head Office in Edmonton, AB
Position Status:
Full Time (40 hrs per week), Summer Student (May-August)
The Organization
The Opportunity
Key Responsibilities
- Create and edit digital graphics and promotional materials using Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and other software/platforms.
- Organize digital and branded files.
- Help conceptualize new design materials.
- Assist with administration of MNA Provincial events & programs.
- Present a positive and professional image of the organization when interacting with employees, citizens, visitors, and other external stakeholders.
- Other duties as required or assigned.
Skills & Competencies
We are looking for a motivated, confident individual who is passionate about Indigenous issues, design, and communication practices. Commitment to teamwork is required in dealing with colleagues in an everyday working environment.
Other skills/competencies include:
- Strong technical skills and knowledge of digital media.
- Intermediate to advanced skills in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro).
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships.
- Strong planning and organizational skills, with an ability to organize and prioritize daily tasks and longterm objectives.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn and develop new skills.
- Flexible and adaptable, with an ability to switch between multiple priorities and work in a fastpaced environment.
- Ability to work with and convey messages to different audiences.
- Political and cultural sensitivity.
- Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people. An indepth understanding of the MNA and Métis culture is an asset.
Qualifications
- Postsecondary education in Graphic Design or related field is preferred. Other relevant training and experience will be considered.
- 12 years of experience in a design role. School or volunteer experience is valid experience.
Other Requirements
- Availability to work Monday to Friday 8:30 am 4:30 pm.
- A hybrid work schedule on an inoffice rotation is required.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends, with notice.
- Ability to travel throughout Alberta is a requirement.
- Reliable transportation and valid Class 5 driver's license.
