Driver - Flatbed/Crane Operator

Reporting to the Shipping Supervisor.

The Driver will be responsible for driving a flatbed truck and operating a crane on site from time to time.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Education

  • Highschool Diploma or equivalent.
Years of Experience

  • Minimum 3+ years of heavy commercial experience of operating heavy vehicle/trucks; and
  • Crane License;
  • Driver must bring with them a letter of experience from their previous employer or employer's insurer, a current dated CVDR from Service Ontario and completion of a Driver questionnaire provided by State.
Working Conditions

  • Work may involve some exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperature, dirt, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and loud noises;
  • On site work environment involves some exposure to hazards of physical risks that require knowledge of an adherence to basic safety procedures;
  • Work environment required wearing PPE in certain locations;
  • Required to lift up to 50 pounds; and
  • Flexible to work overtime as required.

Required Skills:


  • Clean driving record;
  • Up to date NCCCO or equivalent crane certification as required;
  • Knowledge of OSHA and ANSI standards in crane operations;
  • Flexible and able to adapt to fluctuations in the production schedule;
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fastpaced environment;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Demonstrate State's core values and work in a team environment; and
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Job Specific Duties

  • Tie material to truck;
  • Drive flatbed truck or cube van as required;
  • Deliver, pick up materials and make several stops;
  • Check that loads are secure;
  • Perform daily equipment safety checks, conduct daily vehicle inspections and reporting any problems;
  • Examine products to verify conformance to quality standards and securing cargo;
  • Operate Boom Truck crane as required;
  • Load and unload curtain wall mullions/material bundled and up to 24 feet long;
  • Represent State when delivering and on the road; and
  • Any other tasks assigned by the supervisor.
