A.L. Horton Elementary serves approximately 350 students in kindergarten to Grade 6, with 18 teaching staff and 13 support staff. ?The school is located in Vegreville, AB, approximately 90 kilometres east of Sherwood Park, AB.

Elk Island Public School Division invites applicants for the position of Assistant Principal at A.L. Horton Elementary effective the school year.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Monitoring and analyzing school data relating to literacy, numeracy and attendance.

Conferring with students, parents and staff to find the best solutions possible to help students succeed.


Developing innovative and creative strategies to increase student engagement, including the necessary supports for the success of students in inclusive settings.

Building relationships with students, staff and families at A.L. Horton Elementary and Pleasant Ridge Colony School to maintain positive school cultures.

Maintaining high visibility and accessibility during the school day, including classroom visitations.

Providing leadership in creating opportunities for teacher collaboration, student leadership and connections within the community.

Setting, maintaining and modeling high standards of professional conduct.

Supervision, observations and evaluations of classified staff.

Effective verbal and written communication with a variety of groups and individuals.

Supporting staff and consultants working in language programs and specialized programs (PALS, LINKS/Connections, LINKS/GOALS, Ukrainian Language & Culture).

Overseeing the school technology plan, assisting with troubleshooting and logging requests, as necessary.

Assisting the principal with school maintenance oversight.

Maintaining emergency preparedness protocols.

Liaising with student transportation, including special education bussing.

Assisting with school discipline and school-wide recognition program.

Assisting with timetables and schedules.

Contributing to budgeting and staffing processes.

Planning and deploying professional development opportunities for staff.

0.4 to 0.5 FTE - teaching in PALS program, Grade 6, and prep coverage in LINKS (Connections/GOALS similar programs).


Experience, Training, Requirements:

Valid Permanent Alberta Teaching Certificate

Minimum five years successful teaching experience

Master's degree or nearing completion of a Master's program would be considered an asset

Experience as an assistant principal would be considered an asset
