  • Responsible for the provision of intake, assessment, treatment planning, intervention, and referral as appropriate for students who selfidentify with or are referred to Student Wellness & Accessibility for support.
  • Through individual and group counselling and psychotherapy support students in understanding their current situation, including living with temporary or permanent disabilities, and how it impacts on their learning in order to alleviate symptoms and promote selfawareness and selfadvocacy skills.
  • Working with diverse groups of students, including international students and students from underrepresented groups (e.g. Indigenous Peoples, members of visible minorities, persons living with disabilities, LGBTQQ2S+).
  • Where indicated, working closely with students to determine eligibility for academic accommodations and other related supports and services to assist the individual in working towards their academic goals.
  • Assisting administration, faculty and staff, in a consultative role in identifying and addressing student personal and interpersonal problems among students.
  • Provide consultation support to faculty on individual student needs, relating to disability.
  • Research, develop, and deliver relevant psychoeducational sessions, educational workshops to faculty, staff, students and parents on Student Wellness & Accessibility and its services and related topics.
  • Research, develop, and implement new modalities of counselling and accessibility supports as required.

Qualifications:


Education and Experience:


A minimum of a Master's in Psychology, Educational Psychology, Counselling, or Social Work with an in-depth understanding of current challenges in the provision of psychosocial supports, as well as disability/accessibility services in a post-secondary environment.

Registration in appropriate College is a must.


Other Required Qualifications:


  • Excellent written/verbal/nonverbal communication skills appropriate for developing, facilitating and maintaining counselling programs and group presentations.
  • Ability to help students understand, prevent and overcome personal, social or educational difficulties.
  • Demonstrated awareness of individual differences, diversity, inclusivity, and cultural issues and their impact on practice.
  • Ability to offer time limited therapeutic intervention (46 sessions) based on sound counselling theories and proven clinical experience.
  • Demonstrated competence in independently managing crisis situations and an understanding of working with clients in crisis who present with severe emotional difficulties.
  • Ability to provide crisis intervention, risk and threat assessments.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of mental health issues.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and guidelines governing the provision of services to students with disabilities in Ontario.
  • Ability to administer, analyze and interpret an assortment of assessments, tests, and inventories with clinical demonstration of competencies and service excellence.
  • Exceptional ability to function independently and as a member of an interprofessional team.
  • Strong time management, computer, analytical and research skills required.
  • Knowledge of community resources, agencies and professional services for referral purposes.
  • Knowledge of learning strategies and assistive technology, and experience assisting students to develop learning strategies would be an asset.

$67,893 to $117,697 per annum:
