A hands-on role helping children and youth in your community


The Maples Adolescent Treatment Centre is a program of Provincial Services Division of the Ministry of Children and Family Development.

The Maples is a designated provincial mental health facility providing on-site, community, outreach and ancillary services to collaboratively support youth, families and communities.

The Maples target population consists of youth in British Columbia with significant psychiatric and/or behavioural and/or emotional difficulties, ages 12 to 17; as well as youth found Not Criminally Responsible by Reason of a Mental Disorder (NCRMD) or Unfit to Stand Trial under the Criminal Code of Canada & Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Additional services include community consultation service, training/capacity building opportunities and ongoing sharing of current literature.


An integral member of a multi-disciplinary Community Mental Health Team and in coordination with other community agencies and professionals, you provide a range of mental health services to children, youth and their families, when the child or youth is suffering from serious emotional, psychological, behavioral or psychiatric illness.


The Psychiatric Social Worker provides services such as community consultation services, training/capacity building opportunities and ongoing sharing of current literature.

Through a multi-disciplinary approach, our objective is to collaboratively enhance the capacity of communities to plan and care for challenging youth through a closer to home focus.


Job Requirements:


  • Master's Degree in Social Work (preferred Clinical Specialization), Educational Counselling, Clinical Psychology or Child and Youth Care or comparable graduate degree at the Master's level, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience working with children and youth and their families, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 BC Driver's license with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).

Preference may be given to applicants:

  • Masters' in Social Work.
  • With two (2) years or more of clinical experience working with children and youth and their families, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services.
  • Experience working in a clinical setting.
  • Who selfidentify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with indigenous children, families and communities.
