Position Highlights
BC Hydro acquires power from Independent Power Producers (IPPs) to help meet B.C.'s electricity needs. BC Hydro's IPP
Portfolio Management team is responsible for managing business and contractual relationships with IPPs that develop and
operate electricity generation projects such as water, wind, biomass and solar and sell power to BC Hydro. BC Hydro's IPP
contract portfolio includes about 125 agreements and IPPs comprises about 26% of BC Hydro's electricity supply.

Our team includes senior professionals from diverse backgrounds with strong commercial instincts who are responsible for
managing a range of complex issues. Activities may include contract interpretation, strategic evaluation, financial analysis,
commercial negotiations, dispute resolution and day-to-day contract management.

This position is within the Contract Management team of IPP Portfolio Management and reports to the Team Lead Contract
Management.


What you'll do

  • Contract Management: Acts as a primary contact for a small number of energy procurement contracts, with responsibility
for resolving issues related to invoicing and day-to-day operations. Conducts needs assessment; responds regularly to
queries offering alternatives and potential adjustments.

BC Hydro and/or IPP; conduct review of compliance with terms and conditions of the contract; document and track any
deficiencies, and work with Contract Managers and IPP Portfolio Management team members to develop the plan and to
resolve those deficiencies.

  • Contract Claims: works closely with BC Hydro staff and IPPs in the adjudication of claims pursuant to electricity purchase
agreements.

  • Implementation of

Outage Provisions:
works closely with BC Hydro staff and IPPs in the interpretation and implementation

of contract provisions related to outage, including such functions as implementing and updating process as may be
required, tracking and monitoring events of requested, scheduled, planned or forced outages affecting IPP plant or BC
Hydro's transmission or distribution lines, monitoring IPP operating plans, fact checking of outage events for purpose of
claim adjudication; confirming approved outage events, and liaising with internal teams in BC Hydro on the topic of IPP
outages and BC Hydro outages affecting IPPs.

  • Policy and

Standards Support:
providing input in the development of standards, policies, practices, and procedures for

contract implementation.

  • Contract Management Support: Assess issues that arise in the implementation of contracts and facilitate finding solutions,
which may involve collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams. Participate or support commercial negotiations with IPPs.
Prepare drafts of formal correspondence with the IPPs or standard miscellaneous contracts using templates provided by
Team Lead. Prepare drafts of standard reports using templates provided by Team Lead. Complete tasks as delegated,
which may include database data entry, queries, and reports, and other support required by Team Lead.


What you bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Commerce or Engineering, or Technical Certificate in Commerce or Engineering.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience with at least 3 years of direct involvement in one or more of the following areas

of focus:
contract management, project management, financial analysis, contract law, and/or commercial negotiations.
Lesser education or work experience will be considered at BCH's discretion.
