Location:

Mandate


The Deputy Fire Chief, Support Services provides support and administrative leadership on all matters pertaining to the logistics, support, and administration of fire, rescue, and EMS operations, public safety, and emergency management for the City.

Acting as an integral member of the Department's Leadership Team, the Deputy Fire Chief, Support Services is responsible for the provision of strategic planning and services required for the effective and efficient delivery of department programs and services, both internal and to the community.

The position leads diverse business and administrative functions and teams, including business planning, financial planning, project management, logistics, quality assurance, accreditation, public safety, and emergency management.


As part of the senior management team, the position also shares responsibility to provide financial management of an annual Operating Budget which is in excess of $10,000,000 per year, with annual recoveries in excess of $3 million.

Capital is variable at approximately $700,000 per year.

In addition to the above, the Deputy Chief, Administration will regularly manage and make decisions on various emergency and non-emergency situations that are sensitive in nature.

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensure necessary and suitable equipment is available and maintained for Operations in a timely manner, while ensuring costs and inventory are managed appropriately;
  • Identify equipment and process trends and best practices in the Fire and EMS environment. Implement appropriate changes to technology, equipment, and processes while ensuring compliance with procurement/purchasing guidelines and regulations;
  • Ensure the departmental emergency and administrative communications systems, including radio, dispatch, and software systems are operational and serve the needs of the department;
  • Act as a primary liaison with the Communication Information and Technology branch and dispatch providers;
